301 WHP 07 HR - Z Car Garage - Uprev
Finally got around to tuning my 2007 350z (6MT GT). My original goal was to get to 300 WHP, but personal issues put that goal on hold for a while - until recently :-) .
Previous mods (back in 2008) got me to 297 WHP and 260 WTQ (SAE corrected on 70-degree day) with NO tune:
At this point, After swapping out the stillen HFCs for the Berk HFCs, and before tune, the new baseline went down to 293 WHP and 253 WTQ (SAE corrected) on a 85 degree day. Loss in power from 2008 could be from:
Could the 15-degree warmer weather account for the loss of 4 HP and 7 lb-ft of TQ? Or the larger tires? I may go back on a cooler day to see what we get.
Either way, I love it!! The car is a menace! (OK, Maybe that's just the driver) You can actually feel when the computer changes the intake/exhaust cam timing at WOT. It's like someone flipped a switch for power delivery.
Even with 305 PS2's, the car still hunts for traction if the pavement is cool or uneven. If it's warm, smooth pavement, prepare to unleash the beast from within.
The tune effectively moved the torque band down by 1k RPMs. So what I had at 4k, I now have at 3k. This is a most welcome attribute. Also, no more pesky check engine light and there's the valet mode, which I forgot how to enable :-).
In other news, I recently picked up a Flex buffer with all the pads and did a 3-stage paint correction to get rid of the dealer-installd swirl marks from back in 2007.
I also finally got around to installing my authentic USDM Nismo sides and rear add-ons. Still need a front lip and Suspension work. No idea what I'm doing for suspension yet, since I don't really want to go too low due to the crappy Bay Area roads and parking lot ramps suitable for a 4x4.
With the power and wide, sticky tires, the suspension just can't keep up. Nose dive under braking, body roll in the corners and lift under acceleration are more like what you'd expect from a Toyota Avalon!

- Injen dual cold air intakes
- Bassani True dual exhaust
- Stillen HFC's

- Berk HFC makes less power than Stillen HFC?
- 15 degree warmer weather affected the numbers?
- Going from a 275/35/19 (2008) to a 305/30/19 this time
- Engine still only has ~42k miles
- Swapped Stillen HFCs for Berk HFCs
- Uprev Osiris Dyno tune

Having never done any quarter mile driving myself, I think I'm a 14.5-14.8 second driver. I really suck at launching the Z, admittedly. It's not nearly as easy to launch as my old e36 m3.
I would like to do 4.08 gears at some point. I think that would really wake up the car. The HR engine makes for ridiculously tall gears. Although it is fun to come off of a clover-leaf in second gear and then punching it when it straightens out, but you have to be ready to shift a second later into third.
