Hi guys,
I'm building a time attack car here in Australia. Seeing its powered by a VQ35HR i thought i'd post some pics of the build.
Previously powered by an RB25 making about 430rwhp for 5 years, cracked the block, started 2 RB26 builds, but both had more block issues.
My mate/tuner/mechanic and i sitting around trying to decide what engine to slot into the S13. He jokingly said a VQ but i thought it wouldn't fit.....did a bit of searching mainly here on 350Z to learn about the new engine!
Anyway, bought a HR from Racer59 from here, and had it shipped to Aus from NZ.
Been slowly getting VQ bits together, I used the VQswap engine & gearbox mounts, but it was sitting too far forward and high, so we've cut the cross member to get it as far down and back as possible. Also relieved the firewall in one spot as well.
Engine wise, it will run standard internals with the turbo's to shake it all down. Then we'll pull the engine over Xmas and rebuild with rods and pistons etc.
Output won't need to be massive, car should come in around 1050kg or2300 pounds complete.
Will be fed E85, use 2xTD0518G, Haltech Platinum etc etc
Here are some fab pics removing part of the crossmember and engine mounts.

Relieving the firewall

Bye bye engine mount

Tacking in new support brace for cross member

New piece in place

Now sitting about 100mm - 4inches further rearward and about 1.5inhces lower.

Lots of room now! This will help run radiator ducting to the hood as it will run a full flat floor.

Cage isn't finished yet, needed to get the engine in its final spot to complete the strut top bracing and see where we can run them without fouling the engine.
Pedal box should arrive this week and then we can complete the cage.
The engine will now come out along with the cross member to complete the welding.
More to come.

Nice work. VQ's do sit higher in the S chassis. Mckinny has some good swap stuff available:

Thanks, the only bits i needed were engine and gearbox mount. Didn't really need it but made things simple. Got them from VQswap.
Cross member is now complete, its overkill but I'd prefer it over done than under.
Bad pic but
We had planned on mounting the rack in front of the engine and swapped the knuckles over but confident it'll now go very close to oem. Plus we now have a strong and **** cross member to hang it off

Cage is finished, bit of overkill but i'll feel a lot safer now in the car.
Spent a number of hours removing the last of the sound deadening in preparation for paint.
Here's some pics

Small update
Pedal box is in along with the new brake lines. You can see brake pressure sensors will mount behind the accelerator pedal

Gearbox is in, tight fit, about 2mm space each side of the tunnel.

Welding up OEM gearshift hole. You can see the new one to the rear.

Spent a heap this week. New Haltech race logger dash,

New Haltech Sport 2000 to run the HR

A heap of sensors, oil temp water temp, oil pressure, steering wheel angle sensor, front & rear brake pressure, twin wide band O2 sensors

Also new ID2000 injectors to keep it feed on E85
Gave the engine bay a lick of paint the other week.

Heat shielding is in
