Couple of bucks to spend. Uprev vs LSD vs Gears
Hey guys,
Have a few hundred bucks to spend on my next mod. Currently have art test pipes, custom exhaust, k&n flat panel filters and a unichip tune.
Do I ditch the unichip and get uprev std with e tunes (no local tuners for it)?
Do I get a helical LSD and ditch the viscous LSD?
Do I do gears only. (Is I worth it doing gears if you're not doing the LSD too)?
Spend the money on something else? Specify.

I have 4.08s in my VLSD and love it. However i dont see that happening for "a few hundred bucks"... The kit alone is around $500 and then if you plan on doing the work yourself etc...
Most aftermarket differentials are $1k+, so that couldn't be done for "a few hundred bucks"
UpRev Standard is $500 IIRC. So that would probably be your best bet for a budget of a few hundred bucks.
Good luck!

Btw Quaife does a vlsd for our cars for £660.
I guess if the final drive is worth while without the LSD change then that's a good option. But everyone seems to love their uprev a too.
UpRev is good, but do you plan on doing more engine mods later? If you do, you might want to wait until you get all of your engine mods done first. If you're done with the engine, I would say UpRev for sure.
I'm not a big fan of the Quaife, but I guess it all depends on what you plan to do with your car, too.
If you don't do the UpRev, do the final drive.

Getting a good deal with unlimited etunes on the uprev, so I'm leaning that way. Not planning any drastic mods but want to experiment with different exhaust and intake setups over the next few months.
I'm keen on the gears. Just wondering if is really a waste not doing the LSD at once. If I did the gears and then later got the LSD, would I require another installation kit? I.e. how expensive is it to do the LSD separately from the gears?

It's going to be the same labor, just about. Diff comes out for both installs. You would pretty much be paying for the same labor twice. Say you get the final gear now, they'll take out the LSD, take off the stock gearing, put the new final gear on and seal it up. Then later you get the LSD and install it. It would be the same procedure for upgrading the LSD.
I don't know of any LSD kits out there. I could be wrong, but I think all aftermarket LSDs come with output shaft bearings. If not, they're easy to get. I think some people even swap their stock ones onto the new LSD if they're still good.

If you could save more and get the LSD at the same time as the final gear, that would be best. Maybe get a Nismo finned diff cover while you're at it.

Already have test pipes and a tune. Although its a unichip.
is the osiris $500 better than the unichip or am I better off sticking with the unichip tune and spending say $500 on something else. I think that's what it boils down to.

I dealt with Joe who will be doing etunes for me as there are no osiris tuners in my country, and not going to trust someone to wing it either.
Service from Joe has been great so far. I need to break in my new clutch before I can do the data logs though.
Want to get on a dyno soon as well so that I can compare my current unichip tune to the uprev once it's dailed in nicely.

My quaife diff and fd gears were easily the best modifications I've made too the car.
