Default AFR lean or rich with mods?

Ok so I looked around and I couldn't find an answer:

So I got a baseline dyno some weeks ago and the tuner said my car was running a little rich.

I'm about to install Berk TP and K&N Typhoon intakes and a guy (with unknown credentials) told me that it was gonna be bad for my engine if not tuned. Now to my understanding, don't mods that free airflow, like intake and TP, lean the engine out? I'm confused .

I was thinking of installing them by the end of the week, or should I really wait until I can tune the car?

Thanks in advance for any Friendly advice

A tune after adding mods will always make the car get the most bang out of those mods, but intakes and TPs aren't going to hurt your car without a tune. You will most likely throw a CEL with the TPs so get some anti-foulers ready.

Not always true.. My car wouldn't run after much higher then 2500rpms, and would fall on its face after TP's and intakes. Its safer to just get a tune immediately after you install major breather mods. IMO

Dang....really? My buddy's hr has hfc, bassanni exhaust, and pop chargers...he's been running untuned for while...that's what creates my uncertainty all the mixed input and results.

dude you have seen my car and know all the mods that i have done, when i went from hfc to the art pipes it leaned it out, when i ditched the gemini exhaust for the motordyne it leaned me out even more. looking at my print out from the same day i was Really lean, peaked at 14.5 and averaged 13.5... after retune i am around 12.5. do ALL the breathing mods FIRST and then get tuned. fyi from the dyno day back in feb i was 12 afr and spiked to 16 when i had the art and gemini combo... you see how much it changes things

Cool, thanks for the advice travis...yea well my logic is that since I'm running rich stock I will lean out to an average level with the mods.

the stock ecu can trim fuel +/- 20% so there is no worry about going lean with your tune

Added to the fact that your baseline dyno is very very rich for a stock mapped car.

I must add to this,

its 25% and only in closed loop.

this is why normally any good breather mods will lean out the WOT pull because its in open loop and the ECU isn't trying to correct anything.

then +1 on the last comment,,, very rich !!!
