Default Redline06's HR build/log/journal, whatever you wanna call it

So I picked up a spare VQ35HR long block for me to mess with on the side.
Its out of a 2011 Infiniti EX35 and has 5K miles on it.
I'll be slowly building it myself in my garage when I can, I'll try to keep this thread updated as much as possible.
Its gonna be a slow start since I'm in no rush so I wont be posting much progress at first.
A big reason I'm starting a thread early is to hear suggestions from you guys.

PICS OF THE ENGINE

Got bored just looking at it and took a valve cover off just for ***** and giggles, doesn't hurt to poke around a bit.

I'm still deciding if I should boost or stay N/A, I'm thinking to pretty much stay at stock 10.6:1 CR but with forged internals and If I decide to go boost it'll still handle it fine. Obviously that's too high of a CR for boost but that's ok for me and should be able to take a good amount of boost safely since ill be running E85 only.

Build plan:

Rotating assembly:
37VHR crankshaft or if anyone knows if I could get my hands on a 380RS crank for a decent price or even the R35 crank which from my understanding fits but would have to have the snout machined a bit.

Rods and Pistons, stock HR spec just forged. Deciding on which company to go with. Any suggestions?

Headwork:
I want aggressive cams. Looked at JWT, anyone have experience with their C1HR cams? Or any input on their C11/RZ1 set up? seems very aggressive according to this article on their site, Definitely not looking to have a 12.5:1 Compression ratio though haha.

"JWT has released their new VQ35HR / VQ37HRGA Cam & Piston Group for serious N/A track engines requiring +400HP. The 12.5:1CR piston design makes it possible for the large 13.8mm / 310deg. intake cams to operate within the full span of the ECU controlled phasers without contact, and to achieve optimum mass flow balance with the 11.5mm / 300deg. exhaust cams. This package is currently used in the JWT / Nissan Motorsports 370Z Grand Am race engines. JWT supplies camshafts for most Nissan performance engines.
SPEC SHEET:JWT C11/RZ1 VQHR Cam & Piston Group; call Ben at JWT."

Fuel:
Primary fuel will be E85 so I'll obviously need a higher flowing fuel pump, thicker fuel lines and higher flowing injectors.

Intake/Exhaust:
I'm really gonna try to run dual 09+maxima throttle bodies mated to the R35Intake manifold, since it doesn't look like the stock manifold can be bored out too much, esp not to 75mm lol. Of course with appropriate sized piping and MAF housing.
As for exhaust I'll just be using my PPE long tubes and the rest ill think of eventually, probably just gonna run my current nismo s-tune with a resonated motordyne xyz pipe for the time being.

Suggestions are more than welcome

Oh I forgot, I got a transmission too lol, 20K on it I cant wait actually be able to shift normal again.

And the reason for all this all started with a broken axle at the track which also ended up including 8-9 chipped ring gear teeth lol, so when I bought the stock VLSD I saw the engine and trans, it was love at first sight

Why are you going to run strictly E85?

Im excited about it all, hell if I had the parts on hand I could put the rotating assembly and cams together over a weekend, with the engine out everything becomes insanely easy lol

Thank you, I've always wanted a spare to tinker with I'm glad I finally bit the bullet.
So I'm leaning towards beefed up internals, cams and a big single turbo, really interested in the Boosted Performance one. There is a shop here in Tampa that makes a single for the HR as well but they don't sell the kit, I would never let a shop touch my car so that kit is out of the question, however I do know the guy who fabbed it for them personally, Ill talk to him and maybe we can work something out.

If you end up going with a GTR crank I'd definitely be interested to hear how much the machining turned out to be both in complexity and cost. If you can share that.

I was hoping the shop that was building my motor did a VQ37VHR crank swap into my VQ35HR block but since then I had to pull my car out of that shop because they started being shady as all hell. At this point I doubt I have a stroker crank at all. But pondered throwing out the crank and current forged rods/pistons for a GTR crank stroker but decided to not do it for the parts cost required to procure everything again and pretty much throw away the current about 2.5-3k in parts/machining/coating that's getting done now on the current crank setup.

Still doing a bit of brainstorming and paying off a few loans so I can have extra play moniez for this I'm in no rush but will def report here when I do start. For now I'm just gonna start messing with my current motor again, got some ideas I wanna try out and then hit the 1/4 track with a more dedicated set up than previously in hopes for a 12.4 pass or better with bolt ons.

Great, because I'm mostly interested to see what would be involved with the VQ37 or VR38 crank....Should you decide to go with one of those.

The 37 crank should fit fine since the 35HR and 37VHR share the same block, I wouldnt see any problem getting it to fit.
As for the VR38DETT Crank I have no idea, if only I could get my hands on one do a test fit on my motor or at my buddies shop when he has an HR apart or blown up lol

Gotta ask- have you tried test fitting the HR yet? If not, you'll probably notice the starter is on the opposite side from the DE. This means the steering rack won't allow the engine to fit properly. Easiest solution is purchase a steering rack from a HR-equipped Z and refit it.

Also, does Florida have emission testing? If so, the next biggest task is to review the wiring schematics on the main harness to adapt it to the HR. It'll be extremely difficult to eliminate all CELs as the HR-ECM hunts for connections that don't exist.
