Default South Bend clutch/flywheel combo kit arrived!

This cool kit showed up today at the shop! It will be installed next Thurs. so in a week it will all be done and I look forward to it all: SB stg. 2 DXD clutch, SB 19 lb. flywheel, willwood master, CSC (zspeed), clutch + tranny fluids (motul + redline). Some pics as we unpacked it an hour ago:

thanks! Yeah I look forward to breaking it in and checking out any differences between this setup and stock. How are you liking yours, did you go with SB?

I got the SAME EXACT SB kit you purchased, only difference is mine came with Motul 300 for the tranny which 2 weeks later had to switch to Redline since I was having shifting issues.

I love mine, you will have to change your shift points as you will need to run the gear up a tad higher than you normally would before you shift. My kit had a bad Willwood Master which happens and was replaced with no trouble by Zspeed.I did the 500 mile break in, and have been satisfied with how the kit performs for my daily needs. The sound levels at idle are lower or better than stock regarding chatter.

I just hit about 15K on the kit, Master went bad after first few thousands miles.I was glad it was the MC that had trouble than the CSC.

Good luck with install and the kit.

Nice. It was between this and the ACT HD Clutch / Streetlite flywheel for me. Ended up going with the ACT and love it. But I hear great things about SBC. BTW - the CSC looks to be the ZSpeed one

Thanks guys! Good info. that I will pay attention to also. Bmurray, I was serious about going for the ACT streetlite myself so it came down between sb and act; saw this full kit and decided to just go with this because it sounds like you can't go wrong with either of the makes.

Got my first 25 miles or so through city stop and go traffic and I will follow SB's break in instructions. New setup feels good, but it will be a while (a good 500 mi.) before I will get on it.

One thing is right now the pedal doesn't engage until about half way depressed; any of you guys have anything like that with your new clutch/s? I will just get more miles on it and then maybe have the shop do an adjustment for pedal travel and he told me that he may want to bleed again just in case of any possible air; he likes to do this on brakes/clutches a day or two after the initial bleeding anyway.

One thing is that I kept the oem flywheel (don't know if it's worth keeping) and that little SOB feels like it weighs a ton! I was surprised when I first picked it up just how heavy the stockers are!

Did it come with a stainless steel clutch line? The word on the street is with clutch upgrades you need to replace the oem rubber line or else you get^ (Half pedal, soft pedal) whatever you'd like to call it. That's just what I've read, maybe someone who has an after market clutch can chime in.

^Thanks for the response. Yeah I got the stainless lines; nice setup all in all. Driving today it seemed to get feeling a bit better after putting on the new miles, so I'll keep an eye on it and next week stop by the shop and see what they have to say about it. I'm just used to the full stiffness (stock stiff) of the pedal from the very start of it's depression.

The clutch is still getting mated right now, just take the Z back after some more mileage and have them bleed it again if its still an issue. The only difference I felt at first pedal wise was it was a bit more stiff than stock, but it got lighter after a little mileage on the clutch.

Congrats and enjoy sir.

Thanks, I talked to my mechanic Mon. and he wants me to just stay with the break in program that SB has and then I'll stop by and they will do any adjustments/bleeding if needed. I've only got about 120 mi. on it and it's kind of fun, like an assignment or something; doing plenty of stop and go and a little freeway shifting.

Clutch setup now has almost 200 mi. and feeling better and better; doing a lot of city/higher speed combo driving (accel./decel.); making a turn in traffic today I gave it an extra squirt of gas and the 285's broke loose. Will stay on the break in schedule, but I can feel it starting to grab harder so to speak.

Just installed the same kit last weekend. Pedal is a little stiffer but not too bad. Clutch engagement is a little more than halfway as well. Cant wait to get it broken in.

That's cool that you got the same kit; I've been following the included instructions, but now with 350+ miles into the break in I've punched it a few times doing good quick shifts and it's feeling great. I'll still wait longer before I really test it out in 1st-2nd but yeah we both need to post up some reviews of this setup once broken in.

Also, my pedal feels better than when the install was new and I like the stiffness, which isn't too much different than stock to me; kind of getting used to the shorter pedal action which I don't know if some guys prefer over the full stock feel, but I'm getting used to it and that issue has improved some in the past 100 mi. or so. Good luck with your kit and hope you love it!

Got 450+ miles on now and had it in shop yesterday to bleed for any air in clutch fluid and also to adjust rod from MC. The pedal still isn't perfect and may not ever be; these guys at the shop are performance gear heads and say some of these upgraded clutches many times will not feel like stock (fine with me) and you have to get used to a different pedal feel/travel, etc. and they will adjust more if I want.

I've hit it pretty hard in lower gears evaluating how it feels and it's holding very strong, engages quick and tight. It revs nicely and car has very good throttle response, even though it always did, it is definitely a quick reving machine right now! I think the fd gears combined with the 19 lb. flywheel make a great combo. *as of now I'm loving the SB stg. 2 clutch/flywheel setup! I'll check it out on open road going through all gears and make note, but right now it's already back in shop getting cooling system hoses installed and power flushed haha!
