Anyone have any experience with this clutch/flywheel. Seems very inexpensive but the company looks like they care. Just curious, if I only spend $400.00 on clutch I can purchase other mods.

No experience with but my take...

There are a few items on a car I might take a chance on using no-name parts. (Like the faux Volk wheel caps I bought off EBay... break 'em, throw 'em away and spend 2 minutes putting a new $4 unit on ).

However, on items like clutches, engine components that are CRITICAL for operation AND require lots of labor to R&R, I REFUSE to buy anything other than known parts.

IOW, for a paltry $300 more, you can buy the "nearly bulletproof and standardized" JWT clutch/flywheel combination or if not that, Exedy, Southbend, OS-G, etc. Less likelihood of being stranded and having to do/or pay for a premature replacement.

NOT saying that unit is bad... I don't know. And that's the problem... I don't know.

when i still had my Z i was going to go with the southbend. yeah you could cheap out, but how soon after will you be doing it again? you will need to upgrade the csc to be able to handle the extra pressure, and don't forget it is best to change the clutch master and slave at the same time. to do it right, you are looking at about $1500 IF you can do the labor yourself.

 

I bought a cheap 400$ clutch and pressure plate off of ebay, stage 3, wasnt ACS but i cant really remember the name. but anyway, 8,000 miles later it still holds good. just a little grab happy on account of the stage 3.

 

Well I am well aware price doesn't always equal quality. I mean look at Beats headphones... lol


But anyway, I can get my tranny pulled from a good tech for about $200.00 so I dunno I may try it. It looks like the same Z1 package.

Yeah I keep reading about the csc. I will replace with a OEM one when I have the tranny out and hope for the best.

OP, again, no one is interested in seeing you have to do it over again but NOT doing right the first time.... well, you know the drill.

I mean, this is a KNOWN ISSUE with a KNOWN FIX. And OEM ain't it... Just FYI, there was a RECALL for the CSC issue, if that says anything.

 

What is the price difference between the OEM unit and the one that is less likely to fail? Not including the extra labor costs if you have to replace the OEM one more often.

 

oem is like $120-$150 bucks. The conversion kit is around $400.00. Labor is gonna be 200-400 to pull tranny one way or the other. Give or take.


Breaking down sucks though and there certainly is value in avoiding that!

 

This is not smart

My replacement oem lasted 6 months...JWT clutch and flywheel.

I was kicking myself when i had to spend another $700 to replace just the slave.

 

exactly, spend the money now or later.... either way you are going to spend it
