Hi guys!
Share pls, what is the engine temperature during traffic jams? Yesterday I noticed (by OBDII) that the temperature of the coolant 116С (241F). Is it critical?
I have a OEM fans and OEM radiator.
The thermostat is working properly, I checked on the lower branch pipe (right). He's hot after 80С (176F). The fan turns on when 98С (208F). Coolant at maximum level.
Is there any cause for concern or with my loved Z are all right?
Thanks!
Depending on how old your Z car is, I'd suggest removing the radiator and taking it to a radiator shop for a thorough cleaning and check. While I'm not sure about Spain, most American towns have at least one shop that uses a caustic bath to remove all deposits and then pressure tests it. I did it this summer with my Z33 racecar, and together with a coolant change, brought down engine temps on the VQ35HR.
Radiator replacement for $100 all day on multiple sites. If your's is original, older car and I'll assume high mileage, just replace it. It's gonna pop and start leaking from somewhere sometime soon. Mine did. Pinehole leak at the filler neck below the cap. Toss in a new thermostat while you're at it. Mine stays at 195-220 all day long, traffic, idling for 10 minutes or highway.
Here's mine with 90k + miles. They get nasty. You might have a build up of crap in between your a/c condenser and radiator as well, preventing flow.
You might consider doing a couple flushes before replacing these things then do one more after you've replaced'em.
Thank you for information. Today I got to the engine cooler, it is clean enough and looks good. But that's what I noticed .. At IDLE with A/C on there is only one fan (from the driver's side) works. The second fan (passenger side) does not turn on when the A/C is on or off.
I will check the relay and fuse. Could you tell me, how can I do a self-test of the fans?
I'm also interested in this topic. Mine ('05 350z 137k miles) runs perfect if I'm driving over 35 mph in 90 degree heat. In traffic it starts to overheat. Until August it's never been in this environment. US residents, the move was from NY to FL.
I have seen one fan only operating, both fans operating, but it seems low speed fans are way too low. A/C on or off doesn't matter, A/C works correctly but fans never come on high speed. I checked every wire from the IPDM thru all 3 relays and grounds and power as well as the relays, all "perfect". Tried to jump the relay connections, would not turn the fan on, which is odd unless the IPDM has some hidden things inside of it. No other wiring or electrical issues ever. No trouble/DTC codes either. I do have the shop manual. Everything OEM except for the intake manifold and exhaust after the OEM header.
I will hose/blow out the radiator exterior, but at this point I don't think it's the issue. What I'm interested in is a spec for the operating low/high speed (RPM) of the cooling fans, or even how the motors are built (i.e., brushless?). It's not in the shop manual. I assume a question to a dealer about fan speed might get me some strange looks.
It seems I found the problem. Today I have checked 2 fans (driver's side and from the passenger side).
I have made tests with two fans to check each of them. As a result, I found out that the fan on the passenger side does not work. And the fan on the driver's side is well and turns on directly from the battery.
Guys, what do you think I should change only one motor or pair?
Thanks!
I just replaced both of the radiator fans a couple months ago. Not a super hard job. They are known to fail prematurely, as mine did. Overheated in traffic but would calm down when I blasted the heat and started driving again.
Today I have replaced both fans too. Also I have changed antifreeze (green with 50%б proportions 1 to 1). There was a lot of dirt between the radiators. Now everything is fine!
