Unhappy SSR bankrupt?

Speed Star Co. and affiliate applying self bankruptcy

Speed Star Co., manufacturer of aluminum wheel production (Osaka
prefecture Yao city, President Masanobu Hamada) with its sales arm,
Speed Star Sales (Osaka city, President Nobuko Hamada) on the 27th,
self bankruptcy was applied for in the Osaka district court. Debt
total was registered as 67 hundred million yen (~$60 million USD)
Speed Star Co. cites increasing overseas competition as factors to its
declining sales, and as a result applied self bankruptcy to itself and
also Speed Star Sales Co. (13:01)

SOB those knock off companies should be shot. I've owned 3 sets of SSR wheels in my lifetime and they quality is just unreal. Its a shame that lower quality wheels have taken the market away from higher end brands like SSR.

They will probably be restructured and emerge from BK -- or be bought. I doubt the SSR name will fade into oblivion.

oh please oh please let there be some discounted Comp-H's out there

Maybe they should break away from Tire Rack and get a more dedicated distributor.

Skrill, your sig pic has had me lusting after some Comps.

The facts are………..

SSR did file for protection from their creditors last Thursday. The company is currently closed for business.

There will be a period of company restructuring, we expect to learn the details of these actions within the next two weeks.

We are confident that SSR SSF production will be able to continue in the future.

to clarify my Tire Rack comment (since they're here and I actually like Tire Rack ), I see Mackin's 2 page Volk spreads in all the mags, whereas I hardly see SSRs really promoted. Since Tire Rack is the (mostly) exclusive distributor, that was the only basis for my comment.

Of course, 60 mil in the hole is probably more than distribution channel issues.

and if it weren't for The Tire Rack SSR would have little to know following in the States .... they were virtually unheard of before us .... If you don't see the product promotion you need to look a little harder ... check out C&D, R&T, MT and not just the Tuner mags ... which we are also in

Thanks Luke

I am very pleased with the SSR and Kuhmo tire/wheel package you set me up with. I turned my tires around and now I have plenty of shoulder to wear away. I will probably get a total of 9-10 track days with the tires -- which I think is pretty good.

I will likely be calling you this Spring for some new Kuhmos.

Thank GOD I already have my SP1.

Shoot, this is what those knock off company do to a decent company like SSR.

If cosumers kept buying knock off with low low price, pretty soon the real wheel companies will go out of business. Who knows, maybe one day we will see Volk racing and Enkei go out of Business too.

I think we should say "NO" to knock off wheels.

Well, I'm going to be the bad guy here...

I have never been impressed with SSR wheels. I have seen many of bent and cracked wheels at the track, and many race teams have dropped SSR over the past several years.

SSR = Overrated.
