Should I chrome my stock 18s?
I was unfortunate enough to have my rims damaged by a tire shop last week. My insurance will pay to have all 4 refurbished. Should I pay the difference to have them chrome them? Or should I keep the same finish? Has anyone expereinced having theirs chromed? And if so, are there any negatives to this? Thanks.
i guess the big drawback to chrome is the weight. but if that doesnt concern you and you like the chrome look i say go for it. the only problem i see is that if they do a bad job and they may start to chip easily.
Can the stock wheels be machine polished?
That looks chrome and actually will be lighter! no paint! haha!
My friend had his Harley rims machine polished and they came out nice. They need a little extra care though, coz if you get them dirty you need to polish them back to sparkle.

also youll be bling blingin, lose some respect from racers, but gain it from ricers; depends who you care about, if either. I prefer to actually not have respect from ricers, I dont care if racers like me, but I refuse to be the HS dream.
I think chrome is a ***** to keep clean, looks bad when scratched, and attracts attention away from the vehicle; instead of adding to the car.
my thoughts, your car, do whatever makes you happy.

I like the stock finish better, personally.
I see that you live in Illinois, so what would you do when there's salt and what-have-you on the road? Chrome starts to pit in the winter, so after a few years, I suspect they wouldn't look so hot unless you had a set of winter wheels & tires.

If you can... I think you should try to get that kewl looking finish the Preproduction car had (the one with that crazy paint job). Those rims look similar to graphite polish but with more shine! I love those.
what about powdercoating them black/gunmetal/white/whatever?
i probably wont be able to afford the set of wheels i want anytime soon, so i was thinking of powdercoating mine. the process is somewhat cheap, about $50 a wheel.

I'm going to take most of your advise, and not chrome them. Added weight, rim weakining, and the pitting from the salt are all good reasons not to. I think I'll look into other finishes, or just go back to stock.
www.aaarims.com they do everything call them. there in holland michigan. ive used them plenty of times and there reasonable in price.
