Default How do you change out hub bolts/wheel studs?

I know they have to be "pressed" in, or something... so do you have to take the whole hub apart/off the car? Is there an easier way? Can you do it while they are ON the car? Are there any tutorials or howto's online?

unfortunately you need to take off the caliper, and the rotor and the hub. when the hub is off, clamp the hub in a vice, and lightly tap the stud out (they actually come out pretty easily) because you don't want to bend the hub. to put the new one's in, just tighten them down with some extra lug nuts, and they will pull into place. put the hub back on, and tighten everything down.

re-torque your lug nuts after about 100 miles.

Actually if you take off the rotor you can usually turn the hub until you get to the position where you have enough room behind it to knock the stud out, I think it is the top portion of the hub, farthest from the center of the car. I changed all six of mine at work without taking the hub off.

i agree, but i found that it is nice to take the entire hub off, and do the work on a bench. there are 4 bolts (17mm) on the backside of the hub that need to be taken out to take the hub off.
