Looking to get new tires, but was wondering how I go about transferring the TPSs to the new tires? Does Nissan have to do this? Or would a normal shop know how? Pretty much know nothing about the specifics of TPS.

the shop should know how to do it. the TPS are actually attached to the wheels.

 

Local Nissan dealer did mine for $15.00 per wheel.
If you keep the same TPS location (ie. front left stays front left) then you do
not have to recalibrate (more money).

Didn't trust others to not break my TPS.

so when I get my tires, then, I should probably have Nissan put them on the rim, it sounds...

 

Check with your dealer first. Most dealers farm out the work, not done in-house. Having a dealer do the work isn't always the best place.

 

Any normal tire place can do it if you maintian locations R/R, L/R, etc,
and the rims fit the TPS. The TPS goes in place of the normal valve stem.

 

depending on your new wheels, you may have to gerry-rig them with hose clamps. plenty of good info on this site about that. use search function.

 

NOT "a waste of technology" the first time you get a puncture and the system warns you of low tire pressure before you are able to get going at a high rate of travel! The Z TPMS has warned me twice now and saved the tire for a repair instead of me going on and shredding the tire at highway speeds -- been there; done that TWICE on other cars that I have owned. I liked the Z TPMS system so much that although my new Murano did not come with TPMS, I added it for the safety factor and peace of mind!

 

By an aftermarket system. I have seen them with all four tires displayed on one 2/16th gauge. Much cheaper than the stock system, which would be almost impossible to install in yours if it did not come with it. I think tirerack has a system. Check thier web site.

This is the system I installed in my Murano. Cheap insurance when compared to shelling out the price of even one Michelin PS! HTH!

 

People that seem to be intelligent say to me all the time why on earth would you want to know your tire pressure? I always ask them when the last time they checked the tire pressure. It is always an answer like never, last year, why would I? These are the same people who are worried about gas mileage, safety etc. Guess intelliegence and common sense are not the same thing.

 

i am interested in getting G35C wheels for my Z touring. just had some quick questions.....would my 18" tires fit the G35 wheels? also, since infiniti is also nissan, can the tire pressure sensors from the Z be taken out to fit the g35 wheels. thanks in advance for your help people.........

 

Yes & Yes. The Infiniti TPS system is identical to the Nissan system and parts are interchangeable.

 

Question. If you have wheels that already have the sensors, can you purchase an aftermarket receiver that will pick up the Nissan/Infiniti outputs??

 

The NISSAN 350z Tire Pressure Sensors show the PSI... The Infiiti system does not... I would have to check the part number but I think the INFINITI G35 TPS use the same as the TITAN TPS which is different then the 350z...

TO put the TPS into aftermarket wheels is just like putting on an aftermarket metal valve stem...

Very easy...

If you have to re-program them, you need to do that at a dealer...

 

I was unclear. I happen to have Z wheels with the sensors. But the wheels are installed on a car that doesn't have the Nissan receiver (or any receiver for that matter). I was wondering if something else can recieve the nissan tps output signals.

 

gotta go completely aftermarket for that...

TPS is not usless tech.. And actually i remeber reading that there is a law and by 2006 all vehicles need some sort of TPS motoring.
IT has many benefits...

Better gas mileage from properly inflated tires,
Less risk of blowout.
Longer tire life from proper inflation.
and all the other benefits of proper inflations.

BUT WAIT!
shouldn't the owner check thier tire pressure routinly. Yes they should but 90% of the people out there dont cause of some reason. Well now why not install on all new cars a system that tells you where you have low tire pressure.

 

Do you guys know what type of singal the sensors omit? FM? 4-20ma? etc..??
