Default Help with wheels and tires...anyone

So many questions with tire and wheels. I have a 03 touring model and plan on getting 18's staggered 18x8 and 18x9 rears. My car is lowered on hotchkis springs and sways with stock potenza's. Is it possible to use my potenza's on this setup and is it better to get staggered or go 18x8 all around. another question is the wheels are 35 offset and what spacers can I use to make it look more aggresive and not tucked in....

A stagered setup usually gives the car more understeer, which means it will push more. Your sways can help dial this out by putting the rear stiffer then the front. The advantage of going the same wheel all the way around is it helps to cure understeer and it also let you be able to rotate your tires for better tread life. I am in the process of getting another set of rear track wheels so I can run the 18x8.5 all the way around. I think this will yeild to greater handling. If my memory is correct you will be able to use your stock tires on the wheels sizes that you listed above. I thought about using spacers, but was advised not to as it puts added stress on the wheel bearings b/c the center of the car is not being supported on the wheels enough and more on the spacer. Hope this helped any. If you have anymore questions ask.

Thanks for the reply since I am a noob to wheels spec and stuff. How about that offset of 38 is that a bad thing. I listed 35 but it is really 38 for the offset on these wheels. I'm stil unsure of the staggered setup and how the VDC likes and adapts to the setup....ahhh confused

i would really reccomend that you go with around a +20 offset front and rear (depending on your rim manufac.) and avoid using spacers.

if you had to use em, you would have to look into buying longer wheel studs to compensate for the length of the spacer. if you were gonna go with spacers, prolly a 15mm spacers would work with your +35 offset.

just to clarify, i have seen people with 9.5f with +22 offsets and 9.0f with +20 offset and 10.5r with +22 and 10.0 with +20.

also, the stock potenzas will fit, but the rears will be stretched onto the rim.

if 18x8 and 18x9, you could possibly run the 245/40 and 275/40 setup if you want a nice agressive looking rear tire.
non staggared setup would probably be 245/40 fronts and 245/45 rears.

vdc just likes to know your rear tires are bigger than your fronts. i think it needs to be like .4in or taller. (or so i have heard)

The 275/40 for the rear might be alittle to big for a 9inch wheel. I would recommend a 265/40 for a 9inch and a 275/40 for a 9.5.

hmm.. i thinking of running an 18x8 and 18x9 set up as well.. but just wondering, is it possible to have 19x9 all around? with 255/40/18? will there be any problems with the steering or frnder rubbing? i like having the idea of getting my tires rotated thats why, also curing understeer

For the record, I have run a 275/40-18 on an 18x8" wheel. It wasn't pretty, but it worked with no problems (I only did this since I needed to keep the stock wheel size for auto-x). IMHO, in most cases, a 275/40-18 will be okay on a 9" wide wheel.

19x9 will work provided that you have the right offsets and tire sizes. There is no reason that a 255/40-18 wouldn't work either (on 18" rims of course). I am currently running 18x9" wheels (35mm offset) with 265/35-18's all around for track days. This setup works great.
