Default WD40 and Scotchbrite pads?

I just purchased some 19" Roja Formula 7s from a guy on ebay....Anyways, they are in good shape, no curb rash or anything but they need a deep, polishing or something...They are dull looking and have some scratches from possibly some sandpaper or something(I'm trying to find out from the seller right now)

I talked to a guy today that recommended using WD40 and some white scotchbright pads to help get rid of some of oxidation or what ever it is on them. I'm afraid to use to many wheels cleaners, etc....

The wheels are forged aluminum lips and seem to have a painted silver face on the spokes with clearcoat i would imagine.

If anyone has any suggestions im down. I know everyone is going to say, "soap and water and elbow grease" and i plan on doing that but, I really think they are gonna need some kind of wheel wax or something to bring out a good shine?

I can post pics and plan too once i get them cleaned, hopefully not more than 2 hours per wheel will get them done...who knows...

The only answer is to re-clear coat them.... Definetly not WD40 and Scotchbrite .
