Default Any Problems for those with banded TPS?

Hey guys I hope everyone is doing well.

I just got my set of Merc. Silver Volk Sf-Challenges in 19" for my Redline Z

Tires coming wend and thursday everything will get mounted. Hope to have pics soon.

I am gona go with the banding route with the TPS sensor as I don't wana loose em if i can help it.

It would be of great help if those of you who used banding, to put the tps on your aftermarket wheels, could give us some feedback as to how well it held up or if there are any problems with it and also how long you have had it.

I would appreciate this a lot and I bet so would some others.

I'm just worried about the band will start rotating around the wheel or vibrating really badly after a little bit of use. I don't want to damage the tire/wheel or have a horrible ratling noise . I'll use the heavy duty doublesided tape just incase.

Thanks for the support, this forum is really great!!!!

I've had my TPS banded on a set of HREs for two years now, without any problems. I did take extra steps to make sure they would not rotate or move at all. In addition to the plywood clip trick, I used clear silicone caulk / adhesive from home depot to keep them in place. I ran a small bead all the way around my wheel were the band would be mounted and a bit extra where the TPS would be. (opposite the valve) and then mounted the band with TPS over the silicone, quick clean up of any extra with a rag or paper towel (make sure its smooth and even) and let cure over night. Be carefull you don't get silicone in the tps where it needs to breathe. Sorry I didn't take any pics, but its quite simple.
ps
Are you sure you need bands for thoses wheels?

Great thanks! Ya i need to band the sf-challenges. They are a two piece wheel and the valve stem does a 90 degree bend which the tps obviously cant do, so banding is necessary.

For the locktite did you guys use the high strength (probably unremovable) or the medium strength (which says can be removed with hand tools). I wanted to use the medium just incase it needs removing, but the wheel is gona get really hot and is gona be rotating and vibrating at 80mph so I'm worried the medium wont hold up.

Some feedback would be really helpful.

Thanks for the help guys!

Buying the bands was the biggest pain! I probably went to like 10+ hardware stores including homedepot, osh, virgils, and etc. No one had what we need. So i was forced to order online at http://www.heavydutystore.com/Breeze...t_p_21327.html

We need probably about 20-30ft for a 19 inch wheel but 50ft kit is the closest i found.

So now i wait on this to arrive before I put it on.

Thanks for the input!

ya, blue is medium.
you can make more bands with the leftovers, and sell them on this site.
did you get the clips to attach the tps to the band?

I ran a ring of duct tape around the rim first to hold the bands in place, (I think on the top of them too, but don't remember. Don't remember where I got the clamps on line, but I sold my only spares to zboy.

If you have to get them recalibrated, point out to the tech that there is an alternate procedure in the Fsm which they will have to use, not the standard one of putting the tech-2 up to the sensor.

I don't think I understood that , but it sounds important :].

for the clips im just gona get 5/8" plywood spacers and bend them just like BZNYA did or like it was done here

Did you guys use an alternate method?

Thanks again for the help!

did u guys get the "Make-A-Clamp" kit? I hope its the same as the one bznya used cuz his looks like a decent thickness. The pic on the manufacturer site makes it look like it will break like a soda can.

lol I hope so. Finding the appropriate bands and clamps was almost rocket science .

It was either discontinued or they just laughed and said "no one has that". Should have ordered online in the first place.

I found this directory of industrial hardware manufacturers and stores that sell clamps. This might be of great use if your trying to locate it in person:
http://www.thomasregisterdirectory.c...0004707_1.html

The kit is gona arrive tuesday so hopefully it will get here in the morning so i can put them on.

Im tired of having these wheels sit here like beautiful hunks of metal .

I wana put them on!!!!

I recently had my front tires unmounted, switched, and remounted on the opposite wheels (that's how the Z's rotate tires) When the tech took the tires off the wheel he noticed the excess banding (the tail pieces after tightening the band) was breaking off into small 1/2 inch (or so) lengths and flopping around on the insides. No damage to the tires just wierd that stainless steel breaks off!?? Had the bands tightened and tires remounted. I'm going to make sure I keep an eye out for this the next time I "rotate" the front tires at 8,000 miles.
