Canadians. Price of shipping/duty for wheels from USA?
Thread for the Canadians out there.
Many forum sponsors offer great deals on wheels here, and I've been quoted a great deal on LE37's. Of course all these sponsors are located in the USA.
Question: Are these great price's offset by the shipping and duty that we must endure in Canada.
Who has imported their wheels?
How much did you pay in shipping?
And how much was the duty/tax?
thanks for input

Shipping approx $200.00US 5 to 6 days.
Customs you only pay the sales tax 15%, and maybe 7% duty on Japanese products.
That's it. You'll save thousands when buying from the US.

Can we just drive our car to US and pick up the wheel, and install it at US??
Do we still have to pay tax and brokerage fee??
I've brought a Fairladyz Badge from Courtesy Nissan for $27.00 and I pay $30.00 for Brokerage fee....
Is there any way to avoid the brokerage fee???

thanks for the info guys, very helpful
was your shipping/duty/brokerage for wheels only or did you ship wheels/tires together? i imagine it would be more for packaged sets
as for "thousands" difference, my dealer is getting within $500, so i have to decide if worth it to buy locally for that premium
sin, it is my understanding that you will have to pay duty/taxes but not brokerage if you were to pick up in states and drive back

I've imported a thing or two from the USA and overseas. Depending on the volume, size, and value, the costs will vary and it is hard to determine real costs before shipping.
Chico is pretty damn close with his estimate but Albertans only pay 7% GST and not PST.
In recap, for a set of wheels I imported, it was $150 shipping, $115 duty, $75 brokerage, and $145 GST.
Total costs $485 plus the costs of the wheels.
Hope that helps.

As for brokerage fees I never pay any 'cause I clear my own stuff at Canada customs.
UPS is notorious for charging very high brokerage fees. But they are not based on size or volume, but only on the value of the shipment and they also add a "DISBURSEMENT FEE" for paying the taxes and duties on your behalf.

If you choose to go across the border and purchase the wheels and tires and drive back, not declare them and the customs officer can see they are new, your car is subject to seizure and you will face charges.
My advice is DON'T DO IT.

I ask the carrier (FEDEX or UPS) to call me upon arrival in Canada so I can go get the paperwork from them, present them at customs, pay the taxes and duties (if applicable), then fax the stamped clearance so they can deliver my goods, or I pick them up from their depot.
