Default Technical question about wheel offsets:

OK...I hope this is the right place to post this question? I understand in general if you take a 18" wheel (say a 10")and have a 22mm+ offset, it is going to run fairly close to the fender lip with say a 285 on it.

Now...if you keep all variables constant except you change the offset to 25mm+ offset...you have moved or "tucked" the wheel further into the wheel well by 3mm, correct?

If I'm on track above...then this is where I get off track: When you take the above scenario (say a 18"wheel with a 10" width, a 22mm+ offset and a 285 tire) and change the width to say a 11"...but keep all the rest the same....then exactly what happens? Is the additional 1" width in the rim split to either side of the original scenario? In other words if you put the two side by side...relative to the mounting point being identical, would there be an extra .5 of an inch on both the left and right of the referenced wheel?

I don't know how to ask my question without drawing a picture...and that's not too easy to do here. Could someone who understands my question try to answer...maybe even post a diagram explaining it to me.

Thanks a bunch.

you are completely right on your assumptions...

this is why the following is true...

rays te37 19x9.5 is recommended +22 offset for the Z.

the 19x10.5 is 1" wider (obviously). they do not recommend a +22 offset, they recommend +12...

why?

because the width did add 1/2" on each side... (or 12.5mm). so, they needed to push the wheel out that much further so there is no rubbing. so in the end, the inside of the rim is 2.5mm closer to the inside.

Thank you for finally answering this burning question for me. Could you specify once again for me the size tire you are running on what wheel and offset? Your running on the 9.5" with the 22+mm offsets yourself right? Tell me what size tire you are running and if it isn't too much trouble, could you get me a real accurate measurement of the clearance with your current setup from wheel wall to fender lip? Even roll up a gradual curb or something if you can to compress the suspension a bit.

I'm trying to get a good feel for these clearances and without doing it myself (investing in wheels that I may not eventually want) pictures just aren't doing for me.

I know it's lot's to ask Skiddazzle....but I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
