Weird wheel stud probelm...

What was the reasoning behind changing the hub? But it happened again after you changed the hub so you don't think that was the problem correct? I just don't see how I could change wheels tons of times without any problems, and now I have the same problem twice in a row.

on our race cars we use some hub bolts that require modification to the wheel hubs to fit...

the end of them have no threads on them so the lug nuts catch when putting on the wheels quickly in pit stops...

Do you sell similar studs that work with the un-modified hubs? What kind of modifications do you have to do to run the ones you do?

The hub had to be replaced because it could no longer hold the stud securely after I turned the stud/lug nut loose. Another lug nut got stuck but on a different wheel, so I think it was my lug nuts, and not the bolt or hub. But didn't you say you are running Nismo nuts? Those should be fine. I was running some generic chrome ones that came with my wheels.

At $113 I was hoping that the Nismo lugs were going to be fine as well. The first time it happened was with cheap lugs.

Ill see what more I can find out about this problem tomorrow...

I have not seen any problems with those NISMO lugs...

We have been the supplier for them to a few of the major Drift Cars on the Formula D circuit...

What wheels are you using? Do you have hub-rings on them so they are hub-centric?

I was using the OEM track model wheels so I'm pretty sure thats not the problem.

Are you using spacers?

What kind of torque wrench? Has it ever been calibrated?

No spacers. I don't remember the brand of torque wrench but it was expensive as s**t. Do they not come calibrated?

Things can always be off...

I would check that out somehow...

The hub bolts look like they are being stretched...

Hmmm. I will have to check that out. Still makes me wonder though since the fronts are fine. I used the same torque wrench, and those are still on the origional studs. I think I am going to try Nismo studs again and some open end lugs.

Well I just ordered Nismo 60mm studs and some OEM Black Open Road Lug Nuts form Performance. Hopefully this combo works.

Ok well I just tried to get the fronts off and they just spin in place. They have to be completely stripped. Every single lug on both front wheels just spins without coming off. The wheels still have no play in them so they didn't even loosen a little. I don't know what the deal is but this is really pissing me off because now I can't get the front wheels off to even change the studs. I just think that the Nismo lugs are not made to handle the heat and force of track racing.

Here is the complete lo-down...

FRONT:
Stock studs, Nismo 34mm lugs
OEM Track Model Wheels
Hand torqued to 85 ft.lbs.
Worked find when switching from street wheels to track wheels
Stripped completely after 1.5 days at the track

BACK:
Nismo 50mm studs, Nismo 34mm lugs
OEM Track Model Wheels
Hand Torqued to 85 ft.lbs.
Worked fine when switching from street wheels to track wheels
Stripped after 1.5 days at the track

My main concern now is figuring out how to get my front wheels off. If anybody can lend a suggestion or two on that I would greaty appreciate it. Thanks.

Wait a sec..if they are spinning in place, is it the lug spinning around the bolt, or is the bolt spinning along with the lug (Meaning that the bolt has come loose off the hub)? Either way, it totally sounds like the lug nuts are the culprit. That sux, especially since you are using Nimso/Rays lugs!

And also did you try greasing the bolt? Ok I know some people think you should never do it, but I've heard both sides of the story.

No it was just the lugs spinning. After many hours of trying diffrerent angles of attack with an impact wrench they came off completely destroyed. Another trip to Auto Zone for 10 more cheap studs and my car is back rolling around. Nimso 60mm studs and open end lugs should be here mid week, just in time for my next track day. Check back a Monday Nov. 7 to see if it happened yet again.

How did everything go?

Are you shure your lugs had the right thread pitch?
