Super Black Chrome
Does anyone know of a place that can apply a Super Black Chrome coating to a wheel or put an overlay on a chrome wheel to give it the same look as a super black chrome? I'm trying to match it to the RH J8's in SBC.

Here's a link to a post here for a powder coating process that looks like what you're asking about.

Here's the direct link to the company's site.

I also looked into getting my stock wheels Black Chromed as a wheel exchange from a company called LA Wheel and Tire, www.lawheel.com I think that they specialize in Chroming stock wheels and exchanging them. You know, you pay them, they send you Chromed stock wheel, you send them your stokc wheels. This would have worked out great for me because my stocks have some curb rash.
They quoted me $750 for the black chrome process or $500 for the normal chrome. I don't know how what they do for the Black Chromeprocess. Never got it done, but pictures they sent me of a 6 series looked pretty nice.

There was a shop in CA that I sent my 18" RO_JA Formula 5's out to get the black chrome finish. The process ran me $95 per wheel not including the shipping for the wheels to get there and be returned which I had to pay for.
From a distance the finish look immaculate and gorgeous. The black chrome looks awesome in person. But upon further inspection I noticed a lot of blemishes on every wheel as they did a ****ty job on the chroming process. Runs on the inside spokes, tiny surface bubbles here and there and even a piece of chromium that looked like a razor claw that was sticking out on one of the lug holes.
If you find a place that does this finish, make sure they do quality work.

Do you know if they can do just the spokes and leave the polished rim?
and I'm trying to match the RH J8 SBC pictured below do you think that they can match that?

Black Chrome looks sweet. I just went by a shop in So Cal yesterday (US Wheel) and they have been doing black chrome wheels for a few years and they look great, no bubbles, no streaks. The local Nissan Dealers send them stockers to have the black chrome done so they put them on their new cars.

I called them up and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. He said they do a black chrome but its nothing like the black chrome we are thinking about.
The actual finish is called Permastar. And he didn't know what it was.

black chroming is an expensive and touchy process. i used to work for axis wheels and we would send out the centers of 3 piece wheels to get black chromed, a process in which the wheel, or whatever it is is chromed and then re nickle dipped giving it an oxidation known as black chrome it is very easy to mess this process up, and very expensive, it was like 180 per wheel for black chrome 90 for reg. it looks super hard and is exclusive, but it will tend to fade after a few years of use and abuse

The Permastar finish is a process that uses a combination of powdercoating and physical vapor deposition to achieve a true chrome-like appearance. THe finish is powder coated with clear to protect it. They say that Permastar is superior to chrome plating in terms of durability.
My RO_JA wheels above were done in the Permastar finish.

This is becoming a pet peeve of mine, when black wheels cannot even be seen in the picture.
