Isn't Grassrootsmotorsports sponsored by Tire rack?
Same Father and Son-in-law team, rooted autocrossers who started the Tire Rack establishment, from which that tire test in Car & Driver was conducted.

I liked the article because it relied on one expert, not a gaggle of writers comparing notes and reaching a consensus. I'm currently using RE 050's and concur with his observations about it. No feathering after 8000 miles though. No refund from Nissan either - apparently, they won't accept my discover bill as proof of purchase.
The biggest surprise in it was you don't have to pay top dollar for good performance or better wear (athough UTQG is still subjective). You don't have to take their results as final but it is one more tool to help find the tire you need.
Check it out at your local library.

Yes--good tests. The Hankook tires (can't remember the model) were very good for the money, but each tire had its strong points and its own personality. Just depends on what you're looking for. They did not test for road noise and ride comfort, though.
