Default Good article on performance tires in Car & Driver

Hats off to Larry Webster of Car & Driver Magazine for writing an excellent article comparing performance tires. The tires tested in the December issue were:

1. BFGoodrich 9Force T/A KD
2. Bridgestone Potenza REO50A
3. Continental ContiSportContact 2
4. Dunlap SP Sport Maxx
5. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
6. Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212
7. Kumho Ecsta MX
8. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
9. Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico
10. Toyo Proxes T1R
11. Yokohama Advan Neova AD07

Testing included:
1. Dry braking.
2. Wet Braking
3. Dry performance handling.
4. Wet performance handling.
5. Autocross.
6. Skidpad (in G’s).

Other issues considered were:
1. Price
2. Tread wear rating.

Anyone considering purchasing new tires should check out the article.

Thanks. If you compare Consumer Reports recommendations, Tire Rack recommendations, and the comparison that you posted, no one agrees on “best” tires. Still, what I notice is that about 5 tires end up at the top of all three lists. Any of those choices will suit the 350Z well.

zland .. How about scanning the article and posting it ? I don't have a subscription to C&D .. and have no easy way to purchase that issue.

Thanks !!

Jumpin' jiminy #&'#"# cricket ... what is this -- E.S.P. day ?? ...

Gsedan35 ... would appreciate posting the results ... Thanks.

As soon as Bridgestone comes out with a JDM replacement for the RE-01R's (probably beginning of 2006), my recently purchased Michelin PS2's (to replace my better handling but very noisy S03's) are history.

I understand that you wanting to see the article but as a matter of respect to C&D, it would not be right for me to do that considering I am a writer for another magazine. I will leave it as just a thumbs up from a fellow writer that he did a nice article. I am sure there other means for you to get the article other than asking me to do something really unprofessional and compromise me and Sport Z Magazine. From a legal and moral point of view, I do not think me posting a scanned copy of the article is wise. Look at it this way, I would not want someone to post my article from another magazine.

Sorry......

Thanks for the tip Zland.

Will be shopping for tires soon so any updated articles with any review or feedback is worth reading.

Zland is right; given he is in the mag biz it would not be appropiate for him to post the article.

I'm sure someone else will.

Do you have a link to the GRM tire test? Can't find it on their site.

I read the C&D article--it's a good one. They did a nice job of delineating the different aspects of each tire: feel, wet performance, dry performance, etc. It's up to the reader to mix and match the aspects that are most important to you. I've picked a couple of favorites.

I was really suprised that the T1-R got rated so low..... It must been the sticker tires and the T1-R is knows to perform much better after the mold release compound is gone...

Same here. And you're right--they might now have put many miles on before testing. I'll read the article again.

Did Grassrootsmotorsports test the T1-R, if so do you mind saying how they rated it?

Thanks,
Gary

The article said nothing about putting miles on the tires before putting them through the paces. I'm a little surprised at the low Toyo results, but some of it might be due to the silicone mold release that gets worn off after some miles. The testers said it felt "soft and imprecise".

So now you appreciate your T1R ... I've been reading only bad reviews on this tire from hard driving guys.

I only wish they had included the Bridgestone S-03 tires.
