Default Official Z Snow tires advice

Ok, after my fiasco this morning, I need some snow tires. Obviously. Lets hear some of everyone's favorite snow tires here.

Also, Is it necessary to have 4 snow tires? or will the rear 2 do? I was thinking about putting 2 decent snow tires on back, and keeping stock on front.. good enough?

Nah, you need all 4 because you need traction at the front too. I've been in a lot with snow and bits and pieces of ice. I couldn't move an inch. I had to back up in neutral and get out of the parking lot. Good thing it hasn't snowed until tonight, but it's clear roads right now. I definitely have to get snow tires. No doubt about it.

I've had blizzaks in the past - great tire. I have goodyear pilot alpines on my Z. They are Z rated and are a little more of a performance tire. Great tire if you only have to deal with the occasional dump of snow. Most of the time conditions are dry and plowed here so its nice to have snow tires that are quiter on the highway and provide a little more handling.

i'm in New Hampshire and its snowing like a bastard up here. drive to work took me 2 hours on a normally 30 minute ride. i have blizzak L-22's and they make the car drivable but its still awful....and now i get to drive back home in about 9 inches of new snow. My advice is save the money and buy a winter beater that you dont mind throwing in a ditch every now and then.

Z + snow = thats my face sliding 2 inches away from another car and a guardrail

LOL savvy. I'm in CT and it's SNOWING+Lightning here. (?!?!?) Just bought my Z 2 days ago... I'm the idiot for thinking the TCS would be good enough, but I'm a "new enthusiast" if that makes any sense.. so I'm learning.

I too experienced the moments of terror when the back end started sliding towards concrete walls/guard rails/PLOWS.

A lot of people keep saying the blizzaks are decent... I might have to just fork over 1k for 4 of those... I GUESS. :P

Depends on your area and if you want a performance snow tire or not. If you want a performance snow tire, I'd choose the Dunlop M3 over the Blizzak LM-22. If there's a good amount of snow in your area, I'd get the Blizzak WS-50. Check out the ratings over at Tirerack.com.
I know for some, getting a winter beater and paying for insurance/maintain is out of the question so the next best option is a dedicated set of snow wheels/tires. Of course, supplies do run out on snow tires later in the winter season so I wouldn't delay.

is everyone replacing wheels too? i was hoping to get by with the blizzaks or the
alpines on stock 17" wheels. occasional snow here but usually plowed. consistent
low temps though.

I'll throw my vote for the Dunlop M3 Wintersports. These were the cheapest option that I saw when compared to the Blizzaks and other snow tires. Definitely get all 4 tires put on though. I have the 18" rims with the Dunlops and they get me through winter without issue. Like Espresso suggested visit Tirerack. They have good deals and information.

The 350Z plus snow is a matter of perception: everyone has an opinion concerning “no problem,” “possible but be careful,” and “are you out of your mind!”

I’ve been driving in snow and ice for more than 35 years, and I have never experienced a car like the 350Z. Its not a complaint, just a simple fact. Once I ended up on the road facing the wrong way, and the passenger side was stuck against a 3 foot snow bank. The experience taught me a valuable lesson which I will never forget.

I bought a set of Dunlop WinterSport M3 along w/ 4 cheapo wheels. If it snows you better get a setup like this or have a beater. It snowed a good bit (3-5 inches) last night and the M3s came through like a champ. Just remember that you cannot drive the Z as you would on dry pavement and you'll be fine.
Check out the Winter Package from Tirerack.com. I went down from factory the 18s to 17s for the winter outfit. No problems with the TPMS either, it does not beep or flash, matter of fact it does nothing.
Good luck!

I also have the Dunlop Wintersport M3s mounted to the stock wheels. They work surprisingly well even in several inches of packed snow. They squirm a little more than the stock potenzas but handle very well for the 7,000 miles I have put on them.
