Default 255's on 8.5" wide wheel?

Is a 255 tire too wide for a 8.5 inch wide wheel? I got a set of g35 19" Rays and I'm wondering if I can go larger than the stock 245s?

TIA,
Ray

Is there any reason not to run a wider tire? ..as in performance loss or increased tire wear? (other than the added weight)

also, I plan on going with a 25 mm spacer in the rear.. since I hear the Rays looked tucked in.. will this limit my tire width?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions! Just want to make sure I do this right the first time.

Actually it depends on the profile of the tire too.

A 265/30 won't fit on a 8.5" rim but a 45 series will and maybe a 40 series

Thats total BS. I have seen a 285/30 mounted on a 8.5 Nismo LMGT4. If you have someone that knows how to mount a performance tire it can be done.

www.violentracing.com

They are running 18" Nismo LMGT4's with 285/30 up front and 315-335/30 in the rear on their cars. Just takes someone with skill to mount the tires is all not some Tom, Dick or Harry from Firestone.

Do you think I can get some tom dick or harry from firestone to mount a 265/40/19 for me? Will I have any issues with that setup on a 19" Rays rims with 25mm spacer? Thanks guys.

There will no problems with the tire. I don't know about the spacer though.

You saw on 285/30 mounted on a 8.5" rim??

LOL

Show me one online tire chart from any Country that says that can be done, safely or unsafely.

has nothing to do with an online chart it has been done. they run them on the track ALL the time (STREETS OF WILLOW, BIG WILLOW). Your in the Bay area, why don't you take a little drive and see for yourself.

Note the tires size of the Violent Racing 350Z (once again that is on the Nismo LMGT4 wheels). I have driven this car. The tire/wheel combo hadnles flawlessly. Just because you haven't tried it, doesn't meant it cannot be done.

So if I were to go with 275's would I need someone specific to put them on other than the average tire shop?

Are you trying to go 275 all 4 corners? It would not take anyone special to mount 275 on there. Is this going to be your front or back tires? You are running 19's I dont think anything much bigger than a 255 is going to fit up front.

I will notate the difference in this though.

Violent Racing is using a 30 series tire which is how they are getting away with such a wide tire.

during the winter I run 255/40 up front and 275/40 in the rears. When summer time gets here I will go to the same set up they are using.

I just want 275's in the rear. Probably a 35 height if possible? The front rims are only 8 inches wide so what would be the optimal width for those to match the rears?

Are you saying that you can run a 315 on a 9.5 LMGT4?

Can you send me any pictures? I'd love to see them. Preferrably from the rear of the car. Your car's black also, correct?
