Forgive me if this has been covered before,
But are there any advantages or disadvantages to having a uniform 17x7 wheel/tire all around on the Z?

Advantage-if you downgrade to a Civic, Celica, RSX later, you can put your weaksauce sized rims on
Advantage: weight.
Disadvantage: Same tire height will play hell with TSC and VDC. I think a rear tire such as 11 inches wide is overkill. On the other hand, 7 inches is not enough rubber on the road. Somewhere between is a happy medium.

Stock 17s are 7.5 front and 8.0 back with 225/235 summer tires on them, and they look a little small under such a wide car. How thin were you planning on going with the tires?
I think you would be better off finding a good all season tire on stock 17s than going with a narrower rim and tire combo. Sure thinner tires will cut though the water/snow but they may not have enough grip once they hit solid ground to be of much good in anything other than a straight line.

So a 17x8 all the way around might be a better setu for the ame size. I am also thinking about the ability to rotate the tires too. The Stock width looks OK to me.
A Staggered Set would probably be fine though.
I was thinking of a 215 or 225 Tire all arround.

17 8.5/9.5 will make your car fly. Sure they might look funny as hell, but with a lightweight forged, i.e. volk TE/CE or 5zigen fno1r, it will be worth its performance in gold. Traction depends on your tire width. go 245 275.
depends on the tire. There are people on this forum that have run 275 slicks (kumho V710s) on stock wheels (7.5" and 8"), but that's pretty extreme, and those tires have a very stiff face on them. I dunno if I'd go much wider than 245s on stock wheels.
