Default 2006 wheels vs 2003-05

the 05 roadster i just purchased has the 7 spoke 17's. what do you think about an upgrade to the 06 18" wheels?

what is the general consensus on the new rims vs pre 06?

Standard '06 rims are the ones that came on the '05 35th annaversary models. They rock compared to the older rim styles. I'd wait until more '06 cars are in circulation, though; you'll be able to pick them up at a decent price from someone going aftermarket.

Now, the '06 Rays, on the other hand... like to get a hold of a set of those.

The 06 rays are nice but I still think the 03 Track Rays are the best looking OEM wheels for the Z.

Cool, since that's what I have...

Maybe I'll just move my rears up front and widen the fronts to 10" and put them out back with spacers like that one guy did; be a heck of a lot cheaper.

Rather just get some of the Nismo rims, though, for a bit of lip...

I personally do not like the 06 rims... If I was you I would save up and purchase some aftermarket rims that are unique.

I think all the z wheels except for the original rays suck big *****!

And you would pay more to buy the stock 18's then you would pay for a beautiful set of aftermarket!

I agree.....I never liked the rims they put on the Base and Enthusiast on the 03-05.....Now the 6 spokes on the 03-05 Performance and older Touring's still look good IMO.

Those have sharp edges and look like those old porsche wheels I used to hate. I don't think that looks that close at all. The only thing they have in common is that fact that they are 5 spoke. JMHO.

Or you could buy some aftermarket rims that actually look nice. All the stockers look like ***.

I have an 06 with the new 5-spoke wheels and personally I think they look much better than the previous non-track model wheels (6 and 7 spoke). It's a variation on a classic design similar to the original AR Torque Thrust and Cragar SS from back in the day, Nissan has updated this classic design creating, IMO, a more muscular, aggressive looking wheel. Not the most elegant maybe, but i feel that they complement the lines of the car nicely. This is a very subjective topic though. We're talking about personal preference and style, not measurable things such as strength or weight. Go with what makes you happy, not what happens to be cool this week.
