Do you have VDC? If so, you want to keep the relative sizes between the front and rear tires as close to stock as possible. Stock rear is 2.7% larger in diameter than stock front. With that front, a 40 series rear tire is 1.2% larger and a 45 series is 5.1% larger (a bit larger than stock, so you'll have more mass to rotate and be overdriving the car slightly). I'd go with the 40 in the rear. The best combo actually (what I plan on getting in the same tire) is 235/40-18 in front and 255/40-18 in the rear; that's underdriving slightly for better acceleration and nearly the same ratio front to rear as stock as far as diameter goes withthe rear being 2.5% larger than the front.
