Dealership mounted rear tire backwards.
First of all I am an idiot for A: not checking their work(I shouldn't have to), and B: just now noticing after all this time(I should have noticed right away).
Shoulda woulda coulda....
I had my rears replaced around 18-20k miles. I now have 30k miles. I just noticed my rear drivers side tire is mounted backwards (the other side is right). I remember glancing at it a few times before when checking psi & washing it and thinking that it was on backwards, but I just brushed it off for some unknown reason... nah, it couldn't be!
I take my tires/safety seriously and I figured stock tires/stock wheels/dealership...how the **** do you mess that up.
What else do you guys suggest I do besides going back to the offending dealership and lighting a fire under someones ***? Can I demand replacements? Is the tire compromised?
Suggestions? TIA.

It's an re040 tire ?
Just have it remonted the right way. Water evacuation will probably be improved. Be weary for the first couple of miles as the thread wears "the other way". The car might feel a bit unstable.
Be nice to your dealer, he might just remount it for free?

Yeah it's the re040. I payed for the tire and also payed to have it mounted and balanced etc.... CORRECTLY. I did not pay for the tire to be mounted backwards and cause a situation that could needlessly endanger my life(or someone elses for that matter) due to hydroplane/seperation issues.
It's not the first time the dealership has screwed something up, and I've never made a big deal out of anything(it was never anything that affected my safety though). I understand how it goes. It's not the service managers fault his grease monkeys are on drugs. They've always fixed their goof-ups for free just like they will fix this one. I've never had to get ignorant with them and prefer not to if I can help it.
What I was wanting to know is can I claim the tire is compromised??? If the tire was just mounted it wouldnt even be an issue; I would just have them fix it, but I've been driving around with them that way for +10k miles. I'm pretty sure I can claim they are compromised but I'm not a tire expert. I know that when tires are mounted backwards it can cause them to seperate. I'm also a very aggressive driver and I'm not putting my life on a potentially compromised tire that the dealership fouled up(and that I payed for them to foul up).
I know they will remount the tire correctly for free, but I think I should get replacement tires out of the deal, or at least pro-rated replacements. Am I horribly mistaken? Am I making a big deal out of nothing?? Feel free to fill me in.

Seriously, I would make a formal complaint to the dealer and Nissan corporate. Do not let them just re-install it! I would make a big fuss but thats just me. Get a new tire, hell get (4) new ones,
Your typical minumum wage paid Nissan employee is who did this, remember that!

I called several different bridgestone stores and told them the exact situation and they all said that the tire should be fine even with 10k on it, it just needs to be turned around.
I doubt the dealership could do work on purpose that would be a liability, so I doubt the tire is compromised. If anything happens to it and causes a wreck they would be looking at a lawsuit. I called the offending dealership and scheduled an appointment for them to fix it. They will have to rebalance it as well.
I need an oil change too and I will see if they will throw that in for free since I have to waste my time and gas to go all they way up there (about 20 miles away) because of their mistake, and also because they caused me an unsafe situation. No harm in trying.
Will update wed.

1. Tire wear will not be compromised. Only reliablilty of tire is compromised, e.g. driving in rain
2. Take it back, make a fuss to manager, try and get something free to compensate you for your lost time.

what a bunch of dumbies...it proves that the dealerships don't take much pride in their work and have no quality control - especially for a freakin' Z...it's like their flagship vehicle, top of the line.
