Front stock 18" tires are still ok but rears are shot. What is a good replacement...
I now have 11000 miles on my 05 ZR and the rear tires are shot. The fronts are less than half worn. I am looking to replace just the rear for now. Should I just get the same tires again? I was quoted high $200's a piece. I have always matched all 4 tires on all my cars but if there is another tire that will work with the stock front Potenza's then I may try that.
I tried to do a search but it has been down for over an hour.

As for what tires to get, it really depends... do you want max dry traction, wet weather performance? Many people like the BF Goodrich KD and KDWs, Potenza has some nice tires, etc... I like to go to www.tirerack.com and try all sorts of combinations!

My front tires are wearing fine. I do drive the car fairly hard but only on the street not on the track.
I've purchased many tires from tirerack. They don't seem to carry the size Potenza that I need.
I would like to find a cheaper tire if possible. I don't want to be cheap but almost $300.00 for one rear tire is a bit extreme. Especially if they only last for 11000 miles!
I just want to make sure the tire I get is compatiable with the stock Potenza front tires. I've seen problems with cars before because of having mismatched tires.

I'm not asking for the usual tire recommendation. I want to know what rear tire will work well with the stock front Potenza's.
I have seen cars with problems because the front tires were different than the rear. Which is why I posted my question. I normally replace all 4 tires at the same time but this is my first car that the tires can't be rotated and the rears have worn out much faster than the front.
I was going to get another set of the OEM's for the rear and replace all 4 the next time. Since the OEM's are so expensive and wore so quickly I was looking for a possible alternative.
I ran a search and read about 20 pages of posts and didn't find the answer I was looking for. I'm not your everyday noob posting with stupid questions. Please try to show me a little respect.

And by the way, you earn respect, you don't demand it!

I thought I had earned some on this board. I may not know a lot about tires for the Z but I have helped many members in other forums.
Anyway, thanks for the tire info. Your right. I should just buy the Potenza's again and when they wear out this time it should be time for fronts as well. Then I can change all 4 and try something different.

Buy 4 of your favorite tires. Put 2 on the rear. If you like the way the car handles, save the other 2 tires for later. If you are unhappy with the handling, replace the front tires also.
