Default Anyone have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2?

Got my tires from the tirerack and all four tires seem to have the same assymetrical tread pattern with no apparent difference for left and right tires. Basically the left sided tires mount "backwards" in terms of tread pattern from the right side. When I called tirerack, I was told that the tire was Asymmetrical (I knew that), but was not directional. While the bigger blocks are on the outside as they should be for all four tires, the cross grooves angle forward on one side of the car and rearward on the other side of the car. Is it true that these tires are not unidirectional as well as asymetrical, and it doesn't matter which way the cross-grooves are angled so long as the outside/inside orientation of the tires is correct?

Noticed the same thing going to the SP2's a couple months ago.....was told that's just the way they are (by both Tire Rack & a Michelin field rep). BTW, after they get scrubbed in a bit, they are sticky as heck!! Have a blast....

The PS2s are not directional so they can be mounted on either side of the car but should be mounted with the "Outside" stamp obviously facing outward. You are correct in the observation that the large tread blocks stay on the outside. I suppose that helps with cornering.

If you want to see some PS2s in action and get an idea of what I think about them, check out this thread:

The PS2s are great! Awesome stability, low road noise, and great treadlife (220). Simply great tires

Interesting tire. Outside is clearly indicated on the tire, but there is no arrow that I can see.

There is no directional arrow but "OUTSIDE" is clearly marked.

No arrow because they're not directional.

No, but they sure look like they SHOULD be!

Exactly. Looks a little weird with the grooves on the outer side of the tire raking forward on one side of the car and rearward on the other side of the car.

I put Potenza 050s on mine and the tire guy, with me standing there watching him, put ALL four on backwards... They are directional, but the tread is very deceptive. Luckily while we were checking to make sure there was no rubbing, etc, he noticed it and we swapped them side to side. Thank goodness they weren't asymetrical or we would have been at it all night unmounting and remounting them.
