Mounting TPS on aftermarket rims
I was talking to a friend who works at a major tire shop about mounting TPSs on aftermarket rims using the banding method (the sticky thread in this section). But he said his shop, and probably many others, wouldnt mount a tire on a rim with this kind of modification due to "liability" reasons of damaging the sensor or the rim because of the sensor during mounting.
Is this true? Anyone run into a shop that turn them away because of it?

I could see bottom feeder places like Sears, K-Mart, Wal-Mart not wanting to fool with anything specialized like TPS banding. They have minimum wage employees trained to do some simple tasks like tire rotations, fixing flats, mount & balance. To go beyond those, they don't want to risk something going wrong and being liable. They're into high volume, not specialization.
If they break a TPS sensor, they'll have to go to the dealer and spend > $200 for a new one. Do you think it's worth the risk?
