Default Wheels

Currently I have stock 2005-base 17" wheels/tires. What's the best weight-reduction I could expect by getting new lighter wheels/tires? Total 50lbs?

Depends on how much the new wheels/tires weigh...

12 lbs a wheel seems pretty high. Unless you stuck with a 17.

Tires. Stock tires are heavy too.. I switched from stock 17s to 20 lb wheels and saved 10lbs a wheel/tire combo even though I went wider. I saved 40 lbs. BUT, i also saved 5 lbs since i switched to duraluminum lugs instead of the heavy steel lugs. I'd say i saved between 42-45lbs said and done. Its a nice feeling arfterwords

Wheels are unsprung weight so taking a few pounds off of each wheels does quite a bit of good despite the fact that its not alof of weight. Its not the same as just regular body weight reduction. I don't know how much stock wheels weigh (anyone know?) but I'd doubt you could loose 12lb's per wheel.

There are plenty of recommendations for forged 17inch wheels in the wheel forum.

There are many lightweight wheels available.
Check out the classified section and call up a few sponsors.

Just don't put that much air in, heck you must save serious weight by not a lot of air!

Thanks (it was a simple question, and you were they only one with a useful answer). Did you switch to 20lb wheels or 20" wheels?
