oldie bump...

ok to run 255/40/17 square on a 9.5" wheel? I have a 2003 Track/VDC. I've been running 245/40/18 square with no issues.

Damn you run some small *** tires. Post a picture im curious to see how those little tires look.

I would think 255/40 275/40 would be better and would still be too small.

Yeah but people that run 245 square run 245/40 front and 245/45 rear.. 245/35 is like rubber band tires

Sorry I wasnt clear.. I ment the actual hight of the tire, not the 245 portion.

Track Version Reference Sizes
225 45% 18 25.97 Front
245 45% 18 26.68 Rear

17" Sizes
225 50% 17 25.86 Stock Reference Size Base, Enthusiast
235 50% 17 26.25 Stock Reference Size Base, Enthusiast
235 45% 17 25.33
245 40% 17 24.72
245 45% 17 25.68
255 40% 17 25.03

That's a pretty big delta... but would probably work fine on the track given a little extra width and slight gearing advantage but THINK it might look a bit funny on the street with that extra fender gap.

255 45% 17 26.04
275 40% 17 25.66
285 45% 17 27.10
285 40% 17 25.98
295 40% 17 26.29 None

Personally, I wouldn't go down to 17s (lot more tire choices in 18) but that's just my pref.

Oh, and yes, the 255s will fit just fine on a 9.5" wheel.

This 255/40 275/40 17 set-up looks good especially if the car was lowered a bit...

Ive been going back and forth for weeks on new tires and wheels... I even considered a 17-18 stagger with 275/40 tires... Just because 275/40/17s are about the same height as stock fronts

Thanks. Yeah, its about a $500 difference between the 17" vs 18" setup, so tahts why i was exploring it. Who knows, I may just go with the 18s and go 265/35/18 all around and roll with it.

thanks. I am trying to keep all wheels and tires square for easy rotations and to have more neutral or oversteer vs understeer with a staggered setup, as at least i understand it.

I donno for the price I would say they better be... I was thinking those $108 specials were right up my alley... That and this sweet deal.http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...kageFlow=false

Unfortunately the offset is not ideal.. But that price though. $950 for new tires and wheels...
