Default Nail in corner of tire cost $380.00

Just returned from Nissan dealer for a tire check as I was slowly losing air in left rear. My 350z is only 3 weeks old and has 1000 miles on it. Turned out to be a nail stuck in the inner corner, thus not repairable. Potenza replacement was $380.00 "out the door."
JEEZ!
Had no choice but to have it replaced there.
Chances of finding a match on a late Saturday afternoon is nil to none.
So if you find yourself in the same unfortunate tire situation, check prices FIRST beore hitting your friendly Nissan dealer.
Oh well, such is life..........

I could have gotten you one for much, much, less. About 50.00 less or so. I hate to say it but they took you for a ride.

well i feel your hurt but if it is within 1/2 inch of the outermost tread it is not repairable.now some people will say go ahead and plug it cause it worked for me.well those are the most ignorant of drivers out there.a high performance tire should never be plugged or patched anywhere near the sidewall.the dealer of course will charge you more, but i bet if you called a firestone/bridgestone dealer you would have got it a lot less.

Get the same tire from tirerack.com for 100+ less than that quote. It should only be 10-15 dollars to dismount and mount the new tire at any local shop.

Default Tire

Sounds very familiar, I also picked the Z new from the dealer and I belive it had a nail in it when I picked it up. I have not yet replaced it but I am ordering new wheels/tires this week so I'ts not that much of an issue to me at this point. I have only put less than 200 miles on the car and almost none since finding the nail.

Sorry for your frustrations but you are not alone in that boat.

I got my 350z about a month ago, and I bought it 3 hours away from where I live. From the time I left the place I bought it from and the time that I got home, I had put a hole in my front left tire, took it to a local tire shop and got a brand new MasterCraft Avenger installed for $178 out the door.

I think he knows he was ripped; he just did not have a choice.

And putting an odd brand on one wheel is not a good idea.

+1. But, I guess you shouldn't take the chance on a damaged tire.

I would suggest taking your old tire and bringing it to a tire repair shop to see if it is really not repairable. If it is repairable, you at least have a spare laying around when you need a new tire again

I actually had something like this almost happen to me last week. I'm trying to break in my 06 Base and one night was picking up my wife from work. Had my window open and heard a clink.....clink......clink sound. Stopped the car immediately and took my flashlight to check my car as I though maybe got stuck under the car. Luckily I saw a screw was imbedded into the side of the rear tire. I unscrewed it out thinking as I yank it out, I would hear a fizz and my tire would go flat.

Luckily nothing happened and it seems maybe the screw only went in half way in the thread. Watched my tire guage for a week and still no loss of air. Thank goodness. I would be pretty pissed if I had to shell out 4 bills for tire with only 300 miles on it.
