Default Not Another Noob Thread!

how does the height and width of a wheel affect the car's performance?
what are the pros/cons of a smaller/bigger diameter and thinner/wider width?

i know i know.. but i've already tried searching..
either i don't know how to search or they are hiding from me!
all i've found out is that size DOES infact matter ..
*AHEM* oh yea so they do affect acceleration, handling, and performance but how? and also found out if diameter is changed, it could mess with the speedometer and the mileage meter? didn't know, wasn't searching for it, but hey! i'm glad i found out! :]
but yea.. so it'd be very appreciated if yall can help me out..

i do like to search and find things out for myself because its more fun that way and will make more sense and stick with me longer.. but that's IF i do figure it out.. but i CAN'T! i know this may be frustrating but! it is for me too..
it took alot of guts to start this thread knowing i could get
so please be patient with me.

oh!! and does anyone know what wheels these are?!?
i found this pic and forgot who/where i got it from
pretty sure it was from this forum

smaller rims are better for 1/4 mile and you want wide tires in the rear at least
thin tires in the front help by reducing friction
^ this option kills handling, for that you want the same size (wide) all the way around.
Wide tires are more likely to hydroplane, as the tread can't clear the water to the sides as fast at thin tires.
Large diameter rims can lead to a less comfortable ride, and the cost of wheels and tires go up.

one of the biggest thing that affects you wheel choice is wheel wieght.

A lighter wheel reduces the amount of energy it takes to spin them or stop them improving performance. Also reducing wieght makes for better performance overall.

Wheels can affect your speedometer reading becaus a taller wheel will spin less times a given distance than smaller wheels......making you speedo read wrong.

Smaller wheels can improve acceleration as it can make your gearing shorter..ive noticed this going from my stock 18s to my stock 17s.

By far, below is the best site I have found if you want to find out how the size of the tire & rim will affect your car. You can plug in what you have right now on one side and enter the specs of what you think you want on the other side. It has pictures that shows you differences on both setups! The site will calculate the differences between the two -- height, diameter, to include how fast/slow on the speedometer the new setup will affect your car! You can play with the specs and find the desired outcome that you want! Awesome site!

Changing overall tire height changes distance per revolution. Essentially it is the same as altering the final driver ratio. This change will effect acceleration. Sometimes better – sometimes worse.

I recommend that you maintain the OEM tire height.
