Stretching your tires pluses and minuses
So im kinda new to this staggered wheel set up thing. I just purchased some SSR gt2-h's (19x9 in the front and 19x10.5 in the back). I also have the eibach pro kit which is suppose to drop the car 1" all around. knowing this i was wondering what size tires i need specifically for the rears. This isnt my main question though. This puzzel became a lot more interesting or complicated when i started reading post were people purposely stretch there tires sizes. Some say its to create a bigger contact patch from the rubber to the ground! some say its dangerous. i dont know what to believe. Ive searched and every one has there opinion... dont know which to believe????
To stretch or not to stretch that is the question?

the only plusses i can see are that it looks cool and may prevent the need to roll your fenders...other than that it seems like you'd have less of a contact patch with the road and it seems like a blowout would be more likely...not sure if i'd do it on a daily driver

The trend here is sound and looks.
What exhaust will make my 350Z sound like a Ferrari?
I want test pipes, but I am so afraid of rasp.
What wheels look best? 17 inch forged or 20 inch cast iron?
What tires will look hot? 235 or 275mm.
The days when this was a performance forum are long gone. Go for the current fashion. Go for the bling.

Stretching a tire on the wheel that is too wide is not only dangerous, it doesn't look good. When you stretch or overhang your tires, you are not allowing the tire bead to seat properly and the sidewall do not have proper support. Putting the wrong size tire on a wheel is the dumbest thing you can do. You'll actually hurt your performance with the wrong size tire.

im definitly not a bling type of guy!.. though i did get 19"s for the look... but they are forged 19's that wieght 21lbs each.. that gotta give me some performance points right?...lol.. so what im gathering here is its not good to stretch. so for the 10.5's i should go with a 275/35? or is that to big?
keep in mind i have the eibach pro kit

A good rule of thumb is to decide the size tire you want to run first, then choose the wheel width according to the tire manufacturer's recommended wheel width range. That will keep you safe.
Going wider on the wheel in relationship to the tire will deliver sharper turn-in response by pre-loading or stiffening the sidewall at the sacrifice of ride quality. Generally widens the contact patch for that size tire. Better suited for road racing and drifting.
Going wider on the tire in relationship to the wheel will dull the steering response, but give you a more compliant ride. Generally lengthens the contact patch for that size tire which is better suited for max. acceleration traction needed in drag-racing or high-horsepower street applications.

Sign-up for Philadelphia SCCA autocross. It’s a good way to learn about tire size, traction and riding on the sidewalls.

I run steched tires all the way around, I like the way they look. I've had them on for over 1000 miles and no issues. Here are the specs:
20x10 +24 offset 245/35/20 rear Nitto 555
20x8.5 +24 offset 225/35/20 front Nitto 555
also on tanabe springs.
I ordered some 25mm spacers (for a total of -1 offset) for the rear to bring the tire out to the fender. I will have to roll them. Once I get the spacers on I will post some pics, the stance will be sick!

275-285 will be fine on 10.5.

man i had 245's on my 8" wheel in the front...i think that a 245 on a 10" wheel is the most ridiculous looking thing i have ever seen...not only does it not look good but the rim is the first thing u are going to smash up if u get too close to something...of course thats just my opinion so dont take it personal.
