I spent a pretty penny to have my wheels done right and now these people are spending $10 bucks to spray their wheels to look similar to mine.
the reason id argue plasti-dip isnt so bad is because its temporary.

I want my stock wheels to be black. Would powder coating or painting them be better? Also would it look good with my car?

It depends on your budget and skill sets.

I have 2 sets of stockies, one is for the summer which I had powdercoated, and the other set is for winter which I painted myself.

In my experience this is my first powdercoated set and my 4th painted set, and powdercoated wheels hold up soooo much better.

Pros and Cons of powdercoating:

Pros:
Looks nicer
Holds up much better

Cons:
Costs more
Need to find a place that powdercoats
If you damage the wheel (curb it and such) you have to bring it back and have them repowdercoat it instead of a simple paint touch up

I painted my winter wheels because they were destroyed and I really didn't care about them and wanted them to just look a little better, since the previous owner curbed them bad. My babies are my summer wheels which I take good care of and that is why I had them powdercoated.

And I think black will be good for your car because of the top.

I can't seem to find a pic of someone who did their OEM NISMO wheels in chrome black. Anyone? I have my set of all 18s (i.e. four fronts) for my 300, and am considering making them black.

Black is good. Really changes the look of the wheel with a nice set of lugs.

Nice, thanks! Is that matte black? I don't think I'd like flat black (ricer), but thought about semi-gloss for them as well.

Yes, it's a semi-gloss. I'd highly recommend it over flat.

Default Thoughts on painting or powdercoating these wheels

I have a set of OEM grand touring wheels (the 18 x 9, 19 x 10 ones). They've got some curb rash and I'm looking at getting them refinished (full face spray, not spray and blend).

I was originally planning on an OEM finish but it's quite pricy (the one estimate I have for OEM finish, so far, is $740). This would be painting in the original hyper silver.

Another company only powdercoats and cannot do the hyper silver in powdercoat, but the price is $460. However to accurately compare, the first price was +$80 for tyre removal/remounting and +$80 for the hyper silver, both of which are not provided with this, so the fair comparison is $460 vs $580.

I'm looking for any opinions on which might be better - some of the aspects I'm considering are:
- Quality of finish
- Durability of finish (probably powdercoat)
- Re-sale (probably the OEM colour - this would be the whole car, not just the wheels)

Also if anyone has any pictures of powdercoated wheels in any shades of grey feel free to post them...if powdercoating I will probably go for a grey shade as the silvers I've seen look a bit too plain and boring.
