Nismo wheels with VDC?
I'm finally about to pull the trigger on a set of Nismo's but I see at some online retailers that these wheels are NOT recommended for VDC equipped models. Do any of you guys have Nismo's with VDC and are there any problems with this setup? I'm putting these on a GT Roadster.
Thanks!
Todd
Thanks!

That warning is just Nissan's way of covering their corporate a$$. VDC is designed to work within a certain set of parameters. When you start changing wheels, tires, suspension components, you potentially change the way the car behaves and that may cause VDC to not work properly.
There are a lot of Z's out there with both VDC and Nismo wheels that have absolutely no problem at all. Don't sweat the warning, get them. You'll be happy.

Guys, thanks so much for helping me out! Especially you Z04.
I just got 'em off of Ebay for $1,375!!!! SWEET!!!! Now what tires?? LOL!!!!
Anxious, definitely 245/275-40's as you recommend. I remember seeing that when I thought about getting Nismo's in the past but wasn't exactly certain, and after seeing the dealer warning, just wanted to make sure.
Appreciate it guys!

Use this tire size calculator to plug in the numbers between the tires you're looking at and the stock tires. You want to stay within 3% to make sure TCS, VDC and your speedometer all function properly.

Thanks again! The tire size calculator just confirmed that for the rears, the stock 245/45-18 and the 275/40-18 are almost exactly the same diameter, .02 difference with ZERO change to the speedo. Fronts were 1.01% difference and .6 mph difference in speedo(too fast). Very acceptable. Thanks for that Scrobot.
FYI, to keep VDC happy, it's not keeping the overall tire diameters the same (or close), it's keeping the relative sizes front to rear the same (or close). In other words, it's ok to go with tires that are 5% smaller in overall diameter if you do it both in the front and rear.
BTW, I run Falken Azenis RT-615 235/40-18 and 255/40-18 on my Nismo rims and I LOVE them (they are strictly a summer performance tire and not really meant for the wet, though). The tread on them actually runs wide, so they look like 245 and 265 of other brands (which are the sizes Nissan decided to use for on the new Rays GT/Track rims rather than the 245, 275 everyone typically runs on aftermarket rims. If you go a bit smaller in diameter, you'll be underdriving slightly and get better acceleration.

I had a question similar to his. I just purchased some KDW2s 255/45/18 for my 03 track wheels. I put those in the rear, and moved my 245/45/18 tires from the rear to the front. Now the difference is less than 3%. From my calculations the difference between the stock 225/45/18 in the front is 2.6% smaller than the 245/45/18s I had mounted on the front. When I first started drivingin it for the first 5-10 minutes my slip light was going off in 3rd 4th+. Then I turned vdc off, no problems. then after a while i turend vdc back on and no more slip light. Is there an adjustment or calibration period? should i be worried it could still come on at any time? I can get 245/40/18s for the front which are like a 1% difference. I am just curious on why i had that problem when the threshold is supposed to be 3%. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appretiated.
Nope, there's no adjustment possible or calibration. Several people have posted that the first time they've driven after switching tires they've had VDC kick in. Then it goes away and they never see it again.
My autocross setup is 265/18 on all four wheels. I've never had VDC kick in when driving them on the streets. VDC is not as sensitive for some cars or wheel/tires combinations as it is for others.

Good question/comment SS2. And Dave, you're posts are very helpful to me...thanks for the info. Picked the tires yesterday...going with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's, 245/275 40-18's. Got a great price on 'em too, $1020 for the tires ($230/280), $1160 out the door mounted, tax, etc. Should have the Nismos on Wednesday!!!!
