Default Super stretching tires!

I'm mounting 275's on 11" wheels for the moment due to widebody mod not done yet. It seems to me this is potentialy dangerous stretch, but yet have seen others doing it.
My question is, has anyone done this and had their tire blow out? Or am I being concerned for no reason?

rick dont worry man... its not uncommon to this stretch, back in my S14 days this is considered a mild stretch, for drifting i've seen 18x11s on 265s and 255s... the japanese have been doing it for decades, dont worry itll be alrite...

why not go 285s? all you have to do is trim the inner lip of the raer fenders with a dremel...

Looking at the specs, 11" is the upper limit for most 275 tires. 10" is the limit for 275/30 probably because of the low sidewall.

It probably looks like crap. Don't worry, I've got the opposite problem with my autoX setup - 265/35 on 8" wheels.

japanese drifters have been doing it for years, BUT how long is the life span of the tire? that is the point we are talking about a street driven car that will probably be taken on long distance road trips. not changing tires every weekend.

You want stretch look at the euros. Thats stretched. The 240's. I think you hear a lot of bad on here because of the way it "looks".

Just went to a Vdub meet and saw some Jettas with a 195-205 on a 8.7 rims. Porshce cup rims...

might be a bad pic of a golf:

My main concern would be scraping the rims, as they have no tire protection.

it just depends what you want to do with your setup. For my daily driver rims i stretched a 245 on a 11 in. wide wheel with a 225 on a 10 in wide in the front. I've taken some pretty hard corners with my setup and haven't had any problems. just look out for pot holes and anything that may damage your lip, since it will be exposed.

Does stretching the tire effectively stiffen up the feel of the sidewalls? I can't really see any other benefit. It looks horrible IMO

if the car is super slammed I think it can look good.

but it's the same as having TOO much sidewall... when you are out of range of normal it starts looking retarded.

i think it depends a lot on what brand of tires you stretch and the profile of the tires. my stretch isn't mainly for performance, it was just to make my wheels fit

My tires are being mounted as we speak. I believe the rears will look identical to this. I'll take some pics tonight when they go. I'm not real crazy about that look.

I ran a 265/30 on a 10.5 and wasn't even that bad ... with that ratio on an 11" it would be 277mm.

Well this is some sort of progression.

Mounted wheels, rolled fenders and cracked the paint on the first fender. Fortunately, the paint cracked underneith and you can't see it from outside the fender.

Very quickly learned what had to be done to avoid this. Enough heat and it can be done without incident. Did the second side without a problem.

As you can see, the stretch did tuck under, but I don't like the look.

As I said before, its temporary, as the widebody will resolve this. The fenders will be cut off as the overfenders go on.

KW Variant 3's go on next Sunday. Once its lowered, it may pull in a bit and not look so bad.

One issue I deal with on the KW is that the rear does not allow for lowering as other coilovers do.

Yea, I know. I wasn't sure whether I was going with KW. The 3's will go with an 1 1/2" and thats all I need. The overfenders will come down and compensate for the drop. I had decided that I wanted these for the suspension benefits, rather than the drop.

Man, do any of you guys know why the euros are stretching their tires ?

It has nothing to do with performance! Euro homologation laws forbid the mounting of different size tires than what the OEM manufacturer supplies. So these guys cannot put wider tires on their cars. So they'll stretch skinny ones on big pretty rims...

And you guys are immitating them 'cuz you think its cool...

LOL! In the world of tire stretching. that is HIGHLY conservative. I'm running a 245/35 on my front 10.5x19s and a 275/30 on my rear 19x11s for my 350z; HIGHLY conservative and absolutely daily drivable as I do a 160mile drive round trip to school 5 days a week, I've compromised next to nothing in terms of my usual driving habits of a lowered car.
