Default How to install longer studs for spacers?

I'm thinking about adding 20mm spacers in the rear. Ichiba spacers come with longer studs... but I couldn't find any DIY on longer studs.

I mean it's not really a 5 sec job right? What tools do you need and how to replace studs?

Thanks

It's not too difficult but you will definitely need to remove your calipur, rotor and you can hammer out the older studs with a copper hammer. I did my front nismos 60mm's.

Or try Project Kics spacers and the studs are already attached.

I don't like the idea of spacers with the studs. Spacers itself are an extra stress for suspension, and studded spacers will add add whole bunch of extra parts to the equation, plus extra weight. When normal spacer is just one extra part. I'm sure both types work, but I'll fill better with simplier solution.

I ordered 20mm Ichibas and they are already shipped. Too bad it'll take a week to get there from CA.

I have an RPF1 wheels close to stock specs. Buying a 9" RPF1s for rear, with 22mm offset would have almoust same effect as 25mm spacer. But it seems that nobody wants to buy my extra light 8", so I desided to add a spacer, and save myself 10lbs of extra rim+tire per corner that 9" would add.

You mean 4lbs per side? The weight between an 18x8 and 18x9 RPF1 is like 1.5lbs. The difference in weight between a 245/40 and a 275/40 tire is generally less than 4lbs.

Just bustin' your chops...

add in the weight of the spacers as well and you probably didn't save much weight at all

Actually it's just 0.3lbs according to Enkei's website. But the 275/40/17 Kumho Ecsta MX is 28lbs vs 20 for 255/45/17 I'm using now. May be in other brands difference is less drastic, I didn't check. But I'm now it's gonna be heavier. And all the weight increase is furthest from the center.

Spacers are all center weight. And I believe they not gonna be that heavy. (aluminum). Extra rim and tire is all periferal (?, far from center) weight increase. So if actual weight increase is from 40lbs (my setup now) to say 45lbs it's like 112%, the performance wise it'll be more degradation than just linear 12%. I.e. it's way harder to spin the wheel with extra 5lbs at the edge vs extra 5lbs in center.
