reprogram vdc?
i just got an 05 mt and it has the wrong size tires. forum searches had answered all of my questions. that is until i went to the dealer to ask the service manager his opinion. the car has 275/30/19 on the rear and 245/35/19 on the front. the car sometimes activates abs on a front wheel going into fast corners. the rear tire is smaller than the stock original, but the front is virtually the same diameter. thanks to this forum i know my rear should be 275/35/19. so, the service manager tells me to take it to a performance shop and they can reprogram the vdc to accomadate the 275/30tire. he said they were unable to do it, but that the car would handle much better with the 275/30. so, what is up? i searched the forum for "reprogram vdc" and found nothing. is he mistaken? i was ready to get new rear tires, and then i get this new (mis)information. please help. also, if i change my rear to 275/35 and i still experience this front abs activation without warrant, were do i look for a culprit?
thanks
thanks
Putting your received info. through the Dealer BS Translator, I get: "Go away, little man, ain't **** we can (are willing) to do for you."
There is no way to reprogram the VDC to accomodate out of spec tire sizes. Him telling you that the dealership couldn't do it with all of their vehicle specific knowledge and equipement, but a performance shop could do it should have been your first clue. The car will not handle better with those tires, either, though you are underdriving the rear wheels a bit and will have slightly better acceleration (similar to a shorter final drive), but your speedo will read a bit high as well.
Is your "slip" light coming on when you are experiencing your problem? Does the problem go away if you switch VDC off? If so, it IS VDC related and is likely due to the rear tire size. If not (unlikely), check your brake pads and fluid level. New rear tires of the proper size will likely do the trick.

Your trust level of that dealer's service manager ought to be pretty low at this point. Obviously he doesn't know that Nissan has the ECU so locked down that virtually nothing can be changed or re-programmed. For him to suggest that you take it to a performance shop should be a warning about have any future work done by that dealership.
i was not even going to the dealer for the z. i was going to see what was up with my titan which they have had for a week. a subject for another forum. it was just that the yellow z with 19" wheels and the carbon body kit got a lot of attention. i thought i would get his opinion on the matter. this is rather dissappointing info from you guys as i have been pleased with their customer service before this problem with the titan. the problem occurs with vdc turned off or on. i will start with new rear tires at 275/35 and see what happens from there. should i replace the front hankooks at the same time even they are pretty new? what is my best replacement tire option? goodyear eagle, bfg, michelin?
thanks especially to dave, who has helped me understand this problem regarding tire size over the last week or so.
i thru in a photo of the attention getter!
