Default My Z has Maxima rims?

My 03 Z is a performance model and The rims look good on it but my friend has an 03 base and His has the silver rims with those little indents in them, mine are like a 6 star design, Am I the only one? whats with that anyways, are they lighter or something?

You have the half tube style rims (which also came maxima but the styling is a little different I believe).

He has the track rims.

Ok, even I have an idea of what he's talking about.

He has these rims:

Which also came on the Maxima (sorta):

His friend I assume has these track rims or the newer style for brembos:

I noticed this the other day in a parking garage and I was like "WTF, my special performance edition has Maxima rims!"

They're different. It's always been obvious to me... IIRC the Maxima wheels aren't as wide as on the Z either.

Unless his friend swapped for the original Rays Track Rims, he has the 17" rims with the indents.

The 03 18" Touring wheels looks very similar to the Maximas, but they are subtle differences in shape of the stars.

They are different, but I always thought it was weird that they look so similar. They wheels are different anyways, so why not make the design different too? IMO those of us who bought the 35th anniversary or 2006+ base/enthusiast/touring really lucked out because I really like those wheels. In fact I like the design to the extent that I probably would not have bought aftermarket wheels if the 2006 stockers were 9" front and 10" rear and with better offsets.

I have an 06 base, and I'm not totally sure I lucked out. Oil Consumption sucks much more than Maxima rims!

I feel your pain....I have an 05 Touring [reg 287hp motor]...Im having my engine replaced under warranty next week.....They checked oil level 3 times in tha last 5 months and it was betweeen 3 quarts to completely empty like yesterday....The engine never overheats or skips a beat which is weird for an engine with low to no oil...

Mine is the first case that Nissan is looking at and they are sending my old engine to be thoroughly checked to see if it is a design flaw or something according to the service tech....I told them many guys on the forums have the same problem so hopefully my case made Nissan aware of it and maybe they will take care of the problem through voluntary recall or some other way....

Back to topic I always hated how similar the Maxima rims looked to ours...Then I started looking at other parts of the Max and notice the side view mirrors are pretty much the same, the steering wheel can be seen in every Nissan/Infiniti car/truck etc not to mention the engine lol....Parts bin mfg at its best to cut cost...Wish the Z was more exclusive/special with its own unique parts....

Sorry for the thread hijacking. By the way, I do like the 06+ 18" rims much more than the 03-05 17". Maybe I'm anti-modder, but I don't feel any need to get some aftermarket rims.

Snakebitten, to check out my potential oil burning saga, go to https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....232332&page=32

BTW, that is a ton of oil. I haven't heard so many issues of extreme oil consumption in the non-revup motor. Good luck with your new motor.

Thanks for the good luck and link...Yeah my case was so extreme that they are sending it out to an engine specialist to see what is the cause...I was trying to get them to give me the HR motor for all my troubles but they didnt budge

hahaha. practically all the 03-05's non-track have 'em. I think the difference with the maxima is the dimples on the spokes.
