Question Anyone get their fenders rolled?

Body shop called about the rear fenders, and they couldn't roll it without the paint cracking. They can roll it "flat" like the front fenders, but it'll require painting. The total cost with my bumper repair jumps from $820 to $1400! I had to avoid since I didn't plan on keeping the car too long.

Just wondering if anyone did this. I'm running 285/35r19 rubber with LE-37t +22mm offset.

I rolled mine myself without cracking anything. Make sure they use a heat gun and they should be fine

+1 on the heat gun, sounds like they're trying to make some extra $$$ off you maybe

Get them shaved, should cost less than $100 and you dont have to worry about paint cracking.

There's a really good DIY here where someone used a PVC pipe & heat gun to roll their fenders. Although, I'd like a better (closer) look at the actual "rolled point," it looked fine from the pics.

We used to use baseball bats and blowdriers back when our cars were only worth $2-3k. With a $30k car...you have a very valid reason for pause before taking a pipe to your fenders. I know, I do.

I did it using ABS pipe, better than a baseball bat because it flexes only allowing a little roll at a time

Nice... but I'm not sure if I can risk it. I'll ask them about the heat gun technique. Otherwise, I'll probably opt out and deal with the minor rubbing until I decide on a new car.

Thanks guys!

Really? He says the paint was "bubbling" out due to stress and the lines of the car. They're already charging $160 for both sides, so I'm not sure why they'd complicate things. [sigh]

I'll keep you guys updated. I'll probably pick up my car tomorrow after having the rear bumper repaired and repainted.

Get them cut. Its much cheaper, you get more clearance, and as long as a little bit of the fender is lefton, it wont degrade structural integrity. I did that, and also painted the inside of the fender with anti oxidizing paint to prevent any rust.

I did my friends with a wood baseball bat last weekend and didnt have a problem with cracking. He car is getting repainted so we didnt bother with the heat gun. Either way it didnt crack.

Actually the paint will crack on a new car. I cracked my paint on my G35 in the rear using that method above. But its best to heat it up a lot. I didn't heat mine.

I called guy at the body shop. He says it's standard procedure by using a heat gun. When I told him you guys did it with a PVC pipe with no complaints, he was surprised. I'll send him the G35 link.
