Just wondering if anyone is running 255/40/18 on all fours? And if so, ask you to please post pics..
I just ordered some Toyo T1-Rs 255/40/18 and wondering how this might look on the Z.. hopefully not too bad!
Again, wheels are all the same size: 18x9.5, +12.
Thx,
Ty

I have 245/40/18's all around. The car is more neutral, and there are absolutely no drawbacks. No VDC issues, no traction issues, no abs issues. Nothing. The car feels better and I will NOT have staggered tires again. Those who tell you there could be problems have no knowledge, and are only repeating what other people with no knowledge say.
Next time I'm going 265/35/18 all over.
Trust Tubbs... same size all around ftw.

Man I have a hard time with traction sometimes with my 275 rears I can't imagine a 255 rear. Perhaps something like a 275 front and 285 rear would be a bit more to my likings.
Explain more neutral please I have always wondered how the same size tire all around would work for track, better?
I have no understear at all now with my 245 fronts, why would it be better to get something wider up front. Not trying to hijack, I really want to see pics, just curious.

You have more power than stock? If not, I can't imagine needing more than 265/275. It's more neutral to go the same size all around because each corner has the same grip. With a staggered setup the rear will have more grip and push the car more into the corner (understeer).
More tire at the front allows for more grip in turn ins. Making it physically harder to steer, but cornering better.
If you like twisties and are a competent driver, go for a neutral setup. If turns scare you, go for the dealer recommended staggered setup. If drag racing is your thing, then have wide backs and skinny fronts, but don't expect it to be a well handling car.
btw, you might not notice it because your not pushing enough, but your 245/275 setup will provide understeer.

Tubbs, I agree and don't think there should be any issues. I've researched plenty on this site and know I have come across many ppl running the same size all around at some point or another, and w/o any issues. But the 265/35 looks to be between .7-1.0" smaller diameter than stock.
I mean, how LOW are you guys DROPPED? And.. PLEASE POST PICS for the visual aspect of it, as well, in addition to whatever you might be running (maybe a 'small' edit to the thread title now
).
But, I don't know if I plan on dropping, that's why I was thinking the 255/40.

Guys, opinions or any input you can give are DEFINITELY appreciated.
And I guess overall wheel diameter is not important if running the same size tire all around, so please disregard my previous comment. I still have the option to change/cancel my order bc the tires are on back-order, but would you recommend sticking with the 255/40s on all fours?
I would "ideally" like to run a 265 series tire all around or maybe 275, as Nihilation mentioned, just bc of the sheer extra width but how low are you guys dropped, if at all?? Again, I don't plan to do any suspension mods but want to add these wheels/tires and w/o fender cutting/rolling, and w/o it looking 'weird' at stock height.
Thx.

I'm really trying to decide between the 275/35 or 255/40 now, but this would essentially be for a Daily Driver. Any potential long-term problems w/the 275 set-up or susp mods needed to make that work?
I will have same 18x9.5, but +12 all around.

Looking at total tread contact the difference between the two would be .5" at best per tire but the 255/40 tire height is .3" taller than front oe making raising front ride height slightly while lowering the rear. The 275/35 tire is also 1 lb heavier than the 255/40's... ugh I'm going to go crazy thinking about this. That's most likely the issue here, we're thinking too much.

Thanks man. I think in my head I know the 255/40 is the smarter choice, but don't always listen to my own reasoning. I'd just like to see some pics of these two set-ups on 'stock height' Zs? Anyone?? Thx.

what offset are you running. I have a touring and was thinking on doing this too. Either 255/265, haven't decided.

The way I see it is I want my car to be more neutral on track which a non-staggered setup will provide. The other thing is that a 255 is lighter than a 275 and if I can put down the power with a sticky 255 out back and not have traction issues then I should be better off than using heavier 275 tires at a fraction of the cost.

I think for track applications, if you go same size all the way around with a really wide tire, then that's good, but for everyday driving, I think most people on here are going with same size all the way around because they are cheap and want to be able to rotate and have tires last longer. I know people don't like buying tires all the time, but why wouldn't you want a staggered set up, it looks much better to have a wider tire on a rear wheel drive sports car...RX8 looks ghoulish with same size skinny tires all the way around.
