Default Does Size mater? 18's or 19's

I have been looking at new wheels for the Z. I have found what I like. Stern ST-1 Face III Beast in Hyper Black.
Well now I am left with what Size, 18’s or 19’s. I am really leaning toward the 18’s. I have stumbled around in the forums it seems most people go with 19’s. Why ? Is there some benefit over the 18’s?

As for tires sizes I have come up with for the 18’s

Front
245/40 -18 Rim With is 8.5, offset 20mm

Rear
275/40 -18 Rim With is 9.5, offset 25mm

Any input would be greatly accommodating.

Thanks,

Chad

i've contemplated this myself. the 19s look the sh*t, but i've heard they are more prone to cracking if you hit potholes and stuff. that obviously will depend on the wheel design and build quality. either way I say go go 19", those big wheel arches need to be filled!

In general, the 18's will be a little better for acceleration, a little better for corners, a little better for braking, allow more tire brand and tire type and size choices. The wheels/tires are cheaper too. The only thing 19's offer is looks. If you plan to just drive on the street, get 19's. I have 18's myself though.

My 19" volk weigh less then my stockers and look hotter..

19's for the looks and if you spend enough, performance will be fine..

18's for your budget...and if your really concerned about weight..but with a good enough wheel you will be fine.

Volk and Ssr..make some light choices.

18's look hot as well, plus an 18 inch wheel of the same type will be lighter than a 19. I wouldn't say 18's are only for budget orientated people. 18's are for people who may care slightly more about performance.

Also, many corner balancing/race shops don't have equipment for 19's btw. So, that's another consideration I had, since I have alot of suspension goodies.

That's a great point ! Has anyone actually figured out the weight to size diameter ? And really how much lighter are the higher end 19's compared to the 18's. I would figure it would be a wash....because the size difference would offset the diameter increase from the larger ones. Anybody out there have any info or links to support this ?

I don't think that size really matters. It's all in how you use it... I mean either way 18" or 19" is huge and you wont have any complaints and I doubt you will have any women saying you need bigger.

I figured id post a pic of my car with the 19inch stern beast wheels since these are the wheels you are looking into purchasing. I must say these aren't the lightest wheels in the world but they will not bend easily believe me i've unfortunately tested this theory recentley. Anyhow like everyone has already told you 19's are mainly for looks. As far as making your car slower in a straight line i would not be to worried i ran a 14.3 stock on these 19's in a auto my first time ever at the strip in my entire life. Also what i understand is that my 60ft time was pretty bad so i had room for improvement but i haven't back to the track since to try. I would have made the top 20 list of fastest stock times but they consider my wheels a mod so i didn't make the cut . Anyhow here are the pics of the wheels on the car and fitment are pretty good just make sure to get the right offsets because they make alot of different offsets for this wheel. Sorry one more thing make sure to get the rear wheels with the 3.5 inch lip you will love it and get plenty of compliments.

18" for the better driving experience.

19" for "looks"

For me, it's 18"

subjective - well, most people like larger wheels.

objective - 18s have cheaper and greater tire selection, better ride comfort, cost less...

can you see which way I'm leaning?

Now that's just wrong, you put on 19's, I presume, for looks, but fail to lower the ride. That just doesn't make sense. BTW, I ride 18's with a lowered stance, it looks great. 18s or 19s really change very little in the looks department.

Because they like 19-inch wheels I guess.
