Default Speedo Calibration

Quick question. How much roughly would going from the stock 18" wheels to 19" throw off your speedo?

My lawyer thinks we can use that as part of my defense in a speeding ticket.

Cheers

While i appreciate the reply.. What the fck do you think a lawyers job is? They use anything to get you off. And that argument has worked for him in the past..

Who's the idiot? The lawyer or the judge..

just as above, if sized correctly won't make that big of difference. but more importantly, do your research. if you have then you would know that if the speedo is off more then a few tenths, the CEL will come on. May be able to tune that out of it, but not sure.

just for giggles, how fast were you going in what speed zone?

Scroll down about 2/3 and you will find that equation

Little or very little difference, but if he's a fast talker..........

If you were doing 85 in a 65 ----Pay the ticket

Tell us what your before and after tires sizes are and we'll tell you if you have a case or not. I've seen some mis-sized tires being used but they've only been off by a few percent.

BTW - the lawyer is still an idiot to attempt to use that argument in your defense. You changed the wheels and/or tires. It's not like you can blame Nissan or somebody else for doing it without your knowledge.

If you got a ticket for going 60 in a 55, tire sizes might matter. If you got one for going 100 in a 65, you can't blame that on tire sizes. Based on the fact that you have a lawyer involved, my guess is that you're looking at a serious charge and a little speedometer error isn't going to do you much good.

exactly, this has also been tried many a time by offroaders that went to a significantly larger tire package, no such luck, you are still responsible for driving under the speed limit

An insanity plea would be more worthwhile.

Following speed limits and understanding basic geometric principles = being on a high horse?

I like how the OP still hasn't said how much over the limit the ticket is for. I'm just guessing he's screwed.

Its irrelevant.. You want to know for your own curiosity. It doesn't have anything to do with my question so what does it matter?

jtabraham..

No its not.. Missing the complete point is called being on a high horse. I asked if the speedo is affected. Yes No. Not if anyone though my lawyer was a moron or if the legal system would buy the argument.

Bunch of self proclaimed law experts.

All this BS, and you still haven't posted the one relevant piece of information - what are your tire sizes, before and after?
