Default Powertrain warranty question

Are wheel bearings covered in the warranty booklet? I bought my Z pre-owned and it didn't have the book. Someone please look for me. I really appreciate it

Thats cool. The powertrain warranty covers bearings, but I did not know it includes wheel bearings. BTW get a free warranty book at your Nissan dealer.

Actually, you can download the warranty book from the Nissan website.

Wow I'm really having trouble understanding how wheel bearings are part of the powertrain because I would think it's more along the lines of a wheels and suspension thing. If it is covered then that's cool. One less thing to worry about.

Well let's just say I was getting conflicting answers. I first called my dealership and asked them if wheel bearings were covered under powertrain and the guy said "no, it's not".

I then took my problem to the forum and was looking for a DIY when someone said "take it to the dealership it's under warranty still" (because I'm around 44k miles). He said that he was having his worked on under the same warranty.

I then called Nissanusa customer service and asked them. I could tell they were going to be no help at all and just pumped up nissan service departments and said it wasn't covered.

So I then looked up the warranty on some page I found (I don't have a book) and it said "bearing" and the other parts were the parts connected to the drivetrain. I was confused then because then it did sound like it was covered and I called my dealership AGAIN.

A different guy answered the phone and I read him what I was looking at. He said "didn't you call earlier and blah blah I overheard the call" told him that I couldn't remember what the other guys name was. He said "well I believe it is covered but let me DOUBLE CHECK" came back a minute later and said "Yep, it's covered...".

I'm pleased but then again I'm disappointed aswell. I get the runaround from nissanusa and a service rep at my dealership before I get to the bottom of it. Oh well...it's getting fixed.

Seel - Your previous post illustrates exactly why you need to be informed BEFORE you go to the dealer with a problem. Half the time they don't know their own rules. Be prepared to show them they light.

Believe it or not the "1st service rep." from post #6 called me this morning. This is a quick dialogue with him:

"Yes, the wheel bearings are shot, and I don't have those parts in stock. The earliest they will be here is Tuesday."

ME: "Ok, that's what I thought"

Rep: "Like I told you yesterday the charge is going to be $380...."

ME: "I know what you told me but it's under warranty so..."

Rep: "It is?"

ME: "Ya, after I talked to you I found out that is was under warranty and called back to your service department to tell you" "Another guy told me it WAS under warranty"

Rep: "Who was it?"

ME: "I don't know, someone in your service department went and checked on it and it IS under warranty. That's the only reason I brought it in"

Rep: "Oh, well I'll need to check on that"

ME: "You do that and call me back"

(4 hours later)

Rep: "So I ordered the parts and it IS under warranty, the earliest I will have the parts here is Tuesday"

ME: "Ok good" "I'll come get my car until the part comes in"

I'm really disappointed in my local Nissan dealership. I do not trust them at all now. In fact I'm a little worried they might try to sabotage my car just to have something NOT under warranty go wrong so they can make a buck off of me. Should I be worried????????

I doubt that they will but if you really dont feel comfortable then take your car to another dealership. This thread is very interesting, but probably the reason I never really read the details of the powertrain warranty is because I never had to bring my car in except for the tranny swap, fuel recall, and tire replacement/alignment. All those issues I found my answers from this site . I'll be sure to pay closer attention on my next purchase.

Believe me, I would but it's not that simple.

First, I have read that it is bad to get to highway speeds for long periods of time with bad bearings (they could seize your entire wheel).

Secondly, the nearest Nissan dealership other than this one is 1 1/2 hours away.

I was in my Dad's office this morning to be a witness for a living will signing (he's an attorney) and I was telling him about this. His exact words were "They can't do that. It's against the law." He was reffering to them charging me for warranty work. This whole situation could have gotten really ugly fast if I had actually paid for the entire job and then found out later that it was warranty work.
