Default Need advice on tire size

Hello,

I have the 17's on my Touring and need advice on what size tires to get. I currently have the stock tires on:

Front 225/50/17
Rear 235/50/17

Rim size is:
Front 17*7.5
Rear 17*8

I do not drag race, but am considering the SCCA Solo II, so I need a size that would possibly handle better.

Also, lower profile would be nice.

Thanks - Rich

On stock size rims the tire sizes that are the max. width to be mounted on oem wheels are 245/45/17F and 255/45/17/R
I have used the Kumho MX's and liked the stickiness and the price is great. Lots better tire then the "Bridgerocks" that came on the car.

i did the 255's and 245's and dont like it. Im gonna have to get used to it because cant afford pilot sports. The gain in handling is barely perceptible over the stock tires. Thats OK, because the benefit is an amazingly quiet ride and awesome wet traction. However, the larger tire unsettles the ride on smooth curves and compromises steering response and causes more transient side to side movement. I have experienced this everytime I have gone to wider rubber, but I was hoping it wouldnt happen this time.

I AM POSOTIVE that this configuration will suck on the track, but does offer a more smooth less bouncy mustang like ride.

Maybe it help that my tires are mounted on aftermarket wheels that are 8"front and 9" rears.

saw you in the other thread, and thought, havent seen good ol green leaf in a while. thought maybe I was just missing you tho.

245 on a 7.5" rim is a bit of a stretch IMO. I have 245 on 8.5" rim... and they use 245 stock on a 8" rim, but 245 on 7.5 is outside of the reccomended size IMO, it probably will fit, but dont see the point... drop your tire pressure on a good quality set of 235 with sticky rubber and I think youd be better off.

yes ares. Like the grandma in the discount tire commercial, I was throwing my tires through their window. I got a full refund on the oversized goodriches and picked up some pilot sports. Thank the lord the car feels MUCH better now!

I don't know anything about tire sizes. I like the 19" x 10.5" SSR GT3 rims. What is the widest tire I could put on with those rims? I like Yokohama, Nitto, Toyo, and others that have the same criss cross-V pattern. Also, does anyone know any 19" or 20" rims with a big lip?

depending on offsets and style, lots of rims end up with a lip.

for a 10.5" rim youd probably be looking at 295, maybe even 305.
