i have 06 stock which looks better then the previous models and i do want aftermarket wheels it makes the car look even better. but they cost so much for dam wheels + tires and i think to myself is it really worth it? maybe or maybe not. do i really need it NO, do i really want it YES, will it make me happy in the end I DONT KNOW? still debating in my head.
I can understand paying a lot of money for wheels if they are stronger and lighter than stock wheels and can hold a wider tire. However it seems most people don't do this. What I don't get is paying a ton for wheels that are bigger and heavier just for the look. Now I'm sure someone will say the weight doesn't make a difference but I can't bring myself to do any mod thats going to be detrimental in even the smallest way. I really don't like wheels that are 19 or larger on the Z.

Everybody does different stuff for different reasons. Personally, I think wide body kits and salad-bar rear wings are ugly. But I'll defend to the death your right to put one on your Z. Now if you ask for an opinion, I'll tell you it's ugly.
Most of us mod our cars because we want it to be different from the masses. Whether that difference is looks, function or performance, it's our personal preference. The question of whether it's worth it, is still a matter of opinion.
Take the title of this thread and substitute "audio system" for "wheels". I can't see putting thousands of dollars into a car audio system but I recognize that segment of the Z owners who live for that kind of thing.

Plus even if the 19's are lighter than the stock 18's you can still probably get a set of after market 18's that are even lighter.
IMHO wheels should be the first thing to set your Z apart. I've read multiple times that the amount of people that put aftermarket wheels on their Z's is like 2% or less. It could be an accurate number or it might be a little skewed, but it almost guarantees you stand out a little. It's all about customization!

Anyone honestly thinks the 03 stock wheels are better looking than my WORK Meister S1?

The newer stock wheels are definitely a big improvement, but will never offer the looks, peformance, and safety of a nice set of aftermarket wheels.
If you live in Southern California, you'll want to ditch the stock rims.
Millions of stock Zs in So.Cal unlike other states..you don't wanna be just another stock looking Z out here.

That thread with the volk wheels being curbed by Performance Nissan made me even more so not wanna get expensive wheels. Im gonna stick with cheap wheels from now on that tuck in the fender well.

When I got my Z I knew right away that I wanted to ditch the stock '06 wheels and put CE28Ns on. Stock '06 rims look great imho as well.
If I see a 350Z/G on the road and it's rockin stock rims I think, "Cool, another Nissan owner", and move on.
If it's got some attractive aftermarket rims then I look twice.
-To answer the OP, yes I did it for looks!

I live in Northern Cal, and if anything, my stock 18's are what sets me apart from most other Z's around here.
All Z's around here run aftermarket rims, it's VERY RARE that I ever see another stock-rimmed Z's. In order to stand out with your Z in California, you'd need to keep the stock rims

I only lament the fact that the stock 18's are pretty skinny, width-wise. But I am happy with running 245's all around. I will be putting on some spacers later to push the rims out a little bit, but I am happy with how my Z look.
But....hiding under this stock 18's is a set of BBK, something that most people who put on nicer wheels don't seem to have the ***** to do

Other than that, almost every Z's I see on the road, including the Z's of my friends, are all on aftermarket rims (mostly Voks, with one on SSRs).

But up here in Bay Area it's quite the opposite.

However, if that's how you think it's all good.
Is yours 06+ 18s or pre 06 18s? I'm not a big fan of the pre 06 18s, but I do like the new 18s.
