However, if that's how you think it's all good.

Is yours 06+ 18s or pre 06 18s? I'm not a big fan of the pre 06 18s, but I do like the new 18s.
I actually have an 03 Base, so I had the craptacular 17's....which I then upgraded to the stock 03 18's, which I love. I'm probably just one of the very few that like the stock 03 18" Touring designs...along with, apparently, the older members of this board

They do look clean, just not aggressive enough.
I actually prefer 17s over the old 18s. Personal preference

By that logic, shouldn't you be afraid that your bumper gets scratched or your door gets dented? Anytime you or somebody else drives the car, there's always a chance of something happening to it.

As for wheels that tuck in the fender well, they can get curbed just as easily as any others.

Take a look at that tool's posting history. Most of his 10 posts have been spent going around jocking the M3.

I agree that the E46 isn't worth the extra cash as the Z. Any year Z can keep up with one with bolt-ons in a straight line, and the Z costs $20,000 less. I even like the looks of the Z better.

I had an '03 Touring with 18" stock wheels and hated them. Changed them to TSW's. With my '07 Touring 18" ers, I like them and probably will only change them if they fit on a Murano we hope to buy in the future.

I suppose this could be a poll-type thread, but I'm looking more for comments.

My question: Why install aftermarket wheels?

(1) Is it simply esthetics (not that there is anything wrong with that )?

(2) Or, is it to get better performance or some other advantage?

(3) And, is it worth it? ...I read so many threads about expensive aftermarket wheels getting scraped and how this tortures the owner.

It's always obvious when a thread begins to die when the postings begin going off-subject. It's happening here, and as usual. I would like to put the thread back on track (sort of since this is slightly off-topic) with another comment.

When I had my stock 225/45-18 Bridgestones mounted on stock wheels ( I have the 2000 Performance model); if I touched a curb, the result was a scratched wheel (I did this ).

When I replaced the stock tires on my stock wheels, I installed 245/40-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires on the front. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 has a softer sidewall that allows the tire to bulge a little past the wheel. This tire also has a protective rib near the bead-point that protrudes even more past the wheel's edge. It's obviously a protective feature that Goodyear builds into the tire to protect the wheel. If I pull too close to a curb (the "Britney Spears...Oops, I did it again"), the tire rubs first and protects the wheel from scraping . Of course you can defeat this "early warning system" and it's protective design by hitting the curb hard, but it does provide an extra measure of protection.

Just another thought....

Keyboard Alert...

Apparently when you type the "a" key on your computer, the result is an "o" character. Once is a typo, but thrice is a malfunction.

In his defense, I can totally agree when it comes to wheels with polished lips. They can be a TOTAL pain in the *** at times, just like black or red paint on a car. It's one of the reasons I'm getting some cheaper wheels with no lip.

3) Yes, it worth it. Hell, I had my OEM wheels scraped and that tortured me. Most of us are tortured when anything happens to our cars, be it aftermarket wheels or a simple door ding. When you spend hard-earned money for something, you hate to see it destroyed.
well said, it is mostly just personal choice and trying to make the car look better
