Default replacing stock studs

a few questions I couldnt find w/ the Search feature:

Do you guys know if its safe to knock out oem studs with a 5lb hammer?
Does it have to be brass-coated? will it screw up the bearings?
Is it necessary to shrink the stud (by freezing it) so that it comes out easier?
Is 60mm studs too long for the rear (clearance)?
If so, is it necessary to remove the hub?
Is it better to just a shop 'pull' out all the studs w/ a machine than DIY?

thanks

i had to do 3 of mine on the driver side front from where a local shop incorrectly impacted/stripped them. Some wd40 and my hammer worked just fine. I didn't need to freeze it or remove the hub. Worked fine. as for length, not sure. Although the first set i bought were a tad too long. If there too long, you'll never get them behind the hub on the front because the shielding is in the way. The second set was very close to stock length, just a tad longer.

Hope that helps.

I pounded all mine out with a 5 pounder without problem. 60mm i can't answer, my 50mm studs i had to remove the parking brake hardware to install.

I had to replace a couple earlier this year. Used a regular hammer and pounded them out. Pulled the new oem ones back through with a closed-end wrench and a stock acorn lugnut. Don't know how you would freeze them to pull them out. You could freeze the new ones to make installing those marginally easier.

Can you do this without removing the rotor, is removing the rotor required?

Also, how difficult is it to install 60mm spacers? any additional work? I recently acquired 20mm H&R Traks, but without the extended studs...
Thanks

Mine were in the rear. Just had to move the caliper and rotor. Nothing else, even though the DIY calls for some other things to be removed.

Oh, and 60mm spacers? Are you crazy? You mean studs, right?

60mm studs i meant, my bad.

EDIT: What is an acceptable stud size to hold a 20mm spacer? I was thinking 60mm, but it seems liek 40-50mm is more available?

50mm is the norm for 20mm spacers.
